The Grant Proposal Writer is a key contributor in securing funding for CUPS programming by researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to various foundations, corporations, and government agencies.

Your primary responsibility will be to craft compelling and persuasive grant proposals that effectively communicate our organization's mission, programs, and impact, in order to secure funding for our programs and initiatives.

The Grant Proposal Writer will support many internal teams to share CUPS' impact story and will manage an inventory of narrative reports, operational statements, outputs and outcomes to use for funding proposals, reports, communications and more.

The position will support the achievement of CUPS Integrated Care Client Service model by making it easy for people, organizations and government who want to help CUPS achieve our goals find avenues to do so.


Organizational Alignment and Performance Duties:


  • Conduct research to identify potential funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government that align with our CUPS mission and programs
  • Develop clear, concise, and persuasive grant proposals that effectively communicate our organization's goals, objectives, and programs. Tailor proposals to meet the specific requirements and guidelines of each funder
  • Gather data, stories, and other information from internal and external sources and store them in
CUPS internal inventory

  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring that all documentation, attachments, and supporting materials are complete and submitted in a timely manner
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders, to enhance our organization's visibility and funding opportunities
  • Source appropriate data and information for grant reporting purposes, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and deadlines
  • Grant Management: Monitor and track grant awards, ensuring that grant funds are used in accordance with funder guidelines and that grant reports are submitted in a timely manner
  • Contribute to the development, refinement and operationalization of efficient processes to support these goals
  • Maintain CUPS inventory of compelling narrative, technical descriptions, metrics, and more; sourced from internal and external sources (administrative data storage)

Leadership Areas:


  • Create approachable, caring and traumainformed environment for clients, guests and colleagues
  • Act as warden for employee and client dignity by ensuring confidential information is handled with the utmost care and respect in alignment with CUPS privacy protocols & values
  • Champion the success of CUPS Service delivery models of Integrated and Trauma-Informed Care through the highlighting of client & program success with those looking to support CUPS services
  • Support continuous improvement process for CUPS service delivery through highlighting areas for growth in CUPS philanthropy activities
  • Act as an ambassador of CUPS mission and values both internally and externally

Stakeholder Relations:


  • Develop and maintain collaborative and accountable working relations with internal CUPS colleagues to strengthen communication flow, achieve team objectives and increase crossdepartment understanding
  • Participate in CUPS committees, community forums, and internal and external collaborations as directed and deliver presentations on behalf of CUPS
  • Contribute to the safety and wellness of clients, colleagues and visitors by remaining up to date on CUPS health & safety protocols
  • Share experience and knowledge with students, volunteers and guests interested in CUPS services to further develop CUPS social justice impact & external ambassador network

Background required:


  • 13 years, experience in grant writing for nonprofit organizations, preferably in the charitable sector
  • Education in relevant field (e.g., communications, nonprofit management, business, or related field) and asset
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit landscape in Calgary, Alberta, and understanding of local funding sources and opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience with both technical and creative narratives
  • Experience with projects of various complexities, individually and on teams
  • A commitment to AFP and CAGP Code of Ethics
  • Previous nonprofit experience a strong asset
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • The ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple demands
  • An organized approach to work and attention to details
