We are currently looking for a Permanent
Training Manager to join our Regional Operations team in Energy Delivery, overseeing multiple Training needs and Apprenticeship programs.

Reporting to the Director, Regional Operations, you will have overall accountability of Nova Scotia Power's Powerline Technician & Substation Electrician apprenticeship program.

Nova Scotia Power annually recruits new apprentices to complete the four-year program.


As Training Manager, you will:


  • Lead a team dedicated to managing Apprenticeships and Training needs of Regional Operations
  • Develop and implement various continuous improvement training initiatives/programs for all Regional Operations employees.
  • Work with NSPI Safety Team, ensure integration and implementation of all Safety related training initiatives throughout the Regional Operations Team
  • Work with all Regional Operations management teams to ensure the safety of the apprentices throughout the program
  • Complete safety observations, mentoring and coaching to apprentices
  • Complete apprentice performance reviews soliciting feedback from Field level Lead Hands and Regional Operations Supervisors
  • Work with Technician Leads across the province to ensure apprentices are completing the required competencybased training
  • Determine apprentice's rotation schedules with Regional Operations Supervisors to ensure appropriate work experiences are provided
  • Continue to advance the effectiveness of the apprenticeship training content
  • Lead and participate in Joint Apprenticeship Committee
  • Overall accountability for the apprenticeship training budget
  • Lead the attraction and recruitment efforts for the various Technician Apprenticeship positions annually
  • Write annual regulatory report on Powerline Technician succession planning
  • Participate with external agencies (i.e., Nova Scotia Community College) on apprenticeship initiatives that relate to the apprentice programs at Nova Scotia Power and trends in the industry
  • Support storm restoration efforts


You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of the apprentices, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

What skills will make you successful?
You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • You must be a certified Powerline Technician, Electrical Technician or have relevant work experience in Power Utility Grade Electrical construction and maintenance.
  • Ten+ years' experience working in, supervising, or managing Powerline Technician / Substation work and Apprenticeship programs is required.
  • A Valid driver's license and the ability to travel and support a broad geographic region.
