Rife's production is in the greater Lloydminster area, with operational focus on heavy oil. Rife also manages the assets of Canpar Holdings Ltd. and Freehold Royalties Ltd.


Canpar Holdings Ltd. is a private land holdings company, wholly-owned by the CN Pension Trust Funds. Canpar generates income through resource development royalties on mineral title lands in Western Canada.


Freehold Royalties is a public mineral title and royalty company. It manages one of the largest non-government portfolios of oil and natural gas royalties in Canada with an expanding land base in the United States uniquely positioning Freehold as a North American royalty company. Freehold is focused on providing lower-risk returns and growth over the long term.

Team Lead, Business Intelligence

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leverage expertise in data analysis, visualization, and business intelligence to provide valuable insights and support datadriven decisionmaking within the organization;
  • Lead a team responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting reports, dashboards, and visualizations for company stakeholders;
  • Manage relationships with key leadership and align team priorities with corporate goals;
  • Lead requirements gathering for new projects and enhancements, working closely with stakeholders;
  • Collaborate with team architects to design, develop, and implement business intelligence solutions, improving data architecture and performance;
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the current data architecture, proactively recommend and develop efficiency opportunities;
  • Regular evaluation of changes in the data industry and adopt the best practices in terms of technology, governance, security, and compliance;
  • Manage vendor relationships and contract administration;
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation to support users and product development initiatives, including user manuals, data architecture diagrams, and data dictionaries;
  • Develop learning resources for users, to be shared via webinars, inperson sessions, and on the Intranet Learning Hub; and
  • Provide training to users on how to use dashboards, leverage data architecture for insights, and understand the collaborative enhancement process.

Required Characteristics, Attributes and Skills

  • Strong understanding of the Upstream Oil & Gas Industry, with knowledge of land data, mineral rights, financial data, subsurface and production data and how they are leveraged in Analytics;
  • Experience with data lakes, data virtualization, requirements gathering and project management;
  • Direct experience creating and customizing visualizations with Spotfire and PowerBI;
  • Experience in SQL development, including building, testing and tuning queries and optimizations;
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Technology Stack, including PowerApps/Automate and SharePoint;
  • Selfmotivated individual with a proactive customer service focus, accustomed to working in a fastpaced, highperformance environment;
  • Strong critical thinker who enjoys learning and solving technical problems; and
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with crossfunctional teams, create documentation, and educate individuals at all levels of data literacy.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a leadership role within analytics / business intelligence in an energy environment;
  • Postsecondary diploma/certificate in Business Intelligence or Business Analytics, or related technical discipline such as Engineering or other technical fields, or equivalent industry experience;
  • Basic SQL (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, SQLite) is required; and
  • Python familiarity is an asset.
