Trans Mountain operates Canada's only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast.

We deliver approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state.

A Trans Mountain Instrumentation Technician will be expected to provide Operational Support in a multi-skilled work environment that promotes public safety, environmental stewardship and pipeline integrity.

In this role, a technician would be required to utilize maintenance tracking software to document calibration and functionality testing as completed on protective devices, custody transfer instrumentation and pipeline equipment used for both personal and equipment safety.

The technician would also be expected to work in both Operations with other trades designations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and maintain process instrumentation, communication networks and control equipment including flow computers, tank gauging systems, custody transfer metering and associated equipment.
  • Utilize electrical/instrument drawings sets and associated schematics, update asbuilt drawings.
  • Supports programming and troubleshooting of Local Operator Interfaces and Programmable Logic Controllers. (Rockwell PLC and LOI software is the present standard used at Trans Mountain)
  • Provide Instrumentation support and maintenance to ensure system reliability.
  • Analyze, interpret and utilize the information contained in SCADA, LOI displays and P&ID drawings to ensure the safe operation of facilities.
  • Support Emergency Response initiatives and be required to take training in these areas.
  • Provide Operational support to ensure throughput and system reliability.

Requirements:


  • High School completion.
  • Minimum of 35 years experience in a related field.


  • Journeyman Instrumentation Certificate

  • Interprovincial Standard (IP) is required.
  • Journeyman Electrician Red Seal Certificate would be an asset.
  • Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements, Process Control and Hydro Test fundamentals are required.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, safety of company assets and employees, environment and the general public.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Availability to be on call as part of an oncall rotation
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Selfmotivated, capable of performing tasks with mínimal supervision.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must live within an hour of the Edmonton terminal.
