Family Education Facilitator

Full Time / 35 hours per week

Position Summary:

Facilitation_**:

Facilitates psycho-educational and support group sessions and assists in the evaluation of the program's success.

Participates in assessing the need of the community and developing curriculum and makes ongoing modifications to content and presentation necessitated by cultural shifts.

Outreach Support:_

Participates in providing assessment, intervention, care-planning assistance and support for program participants. Assists with the intake process in identifying new group participants.

Aids program participants in identifying, understanding, and addressing personal/family problems and in establishing and achieving SMART goals in their parenting.

Qualifications:

Education, training and Experience:_

Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field.
Minimum of one (1) year previous work in a similar environment required.
Minimum of one (1) year previous work in group facilitation with similar populations.
Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of communitybased program and related provincial and community support systems preferred.
Demonstrated skills in group facilitation, curriculum writing and parenting program development.
One (1) year recent related experience including group facilitation with similar populations.

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Must possess knowledge of human development, group dynamics, family dynamics, attachment and systems theories and demonstrated ability to work with children and families.
Knowledge of intervention involving issues of attachment and attachment disruption.
Knowledge of interventions involving issues of trauma.
Must possess welldeveloped interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, good organization skills and general management skills.
Proficient in facilitation skills, temperamentally and emotionally capable of empowering the client family.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other program staff, therapists, social workers and other related staff.
Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance.

Additional Information:_

This position requires the ability to function both independently and with a small team. Managing emergency situations in an ongoing expectation of this position.

While this position is primarily as a group facilitator, individual one-on-one outreach and support may be required as per the Coordinator's direction.

Groups facilitated by this position may require work outside normal office hours and in clients' homes, in the community or at care team functions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans and conducts psycho-educational parenting and family functioning group sessions in consultation with the family Education team and community partners.
Provides emotional support, guidance, and problem-solving to clients to address issues related to family functioning in group setting using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group facilitation techniques, and psycho-educational group methods to resolve the identified problems, needs, and risks.
In consultation with the coordinator and the team, develops and modifies curriculum content related to parenting skill building on issues such as parent-child interaction, child development, discipline, guidance, behavioral management, anger management, emotional regulation, and others.
Through consultation and partnership with Aboriginal agencies in the community, provides indigenous-based, culturally sensitive group opportunities in parenting support, education, and family health.
Obtains feedback and participates in evaluating group effectiveness, material presented, facilitation, support services, collaterals, etc. Report any difficulties to the Coordinator and collaborates with the team to reflectively make suggestions on any modifications, with final determination of changes made by the Coordinator.
Performs group and individual assessments for participants by working jointly with family, Family Education Support Worker, and referring agency to determine client goals and develop action and care plans. Prepares and conducts basic engagement sessions with clients and participates in the implementation of the care plan. Recommends referral and placement of clients to appropriate programs, evaluates performance and progress of clients, problem solves and redirects family members toward appropriate and beneficial use of their personal resources, community resources and support networks.
When applicable, delivers outreach support and advocacy prior to, during and following group. May provide follow-up supports to family upon leaving the program.
