Payroll Specialist, 12-month contract with benefits, Mississauga, ON


Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this position is part of the Payroll Specialists team and processes payroll within strict deadlines, in accordance with Federal, Provincial, Union agreements and Company regulations and policies.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Full cycle of a biweekly payroll or weekly payroll
  • Assists with documenting and maintaining SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Processing SAP maintenance: Maintain employee personnel and payroll records in the HRIS system, Payroll system and personnel files, ensuring all information is current, accurate and compliant with all company policies and procedures
  • Prepare various calculations (sub plan, short term payments, partial payments, retroactive payments, claw backs, supplemental vacation, vacation pay, statutory calculations, etc.)
  • Analyze/investigate/action various scheduled payroll reports
  • Time entry updates and investigations if needed
  • Run reports, review, and reconcile thirdparty payroll remittances and complete/submit Cheque Requisitions
  • Analyze and reconcile payroll related general ledger accounts
  • Verify accurate calculation of wages, tax withholding, and company deductions
  • Support the team with processing of all applicable payroll requirements as defined by the change to the employee e.g., new hire, rate change retro, topup, pay adjustments, termination pay, ROE etc.
  • Assist in the PIER analysis and actioning discrepancies
  • Assist in all yearend activities
  • Assist with managing risk within payroll functions by monitoring compliance with all applicable policies including payroll statutory requirements, provincial and federal legislation, and regulations
  • Responsible for resolving payroll related problems

Qualifications:


  • National Payroll Institute certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP)
  • Minimum 3 years' progressive experience in managing all facets of payroll within a multiunion, multifunctional environment; coupled with experience collecting hours using an automated Time and Attendance system
  • Minimum 3 years' experience processing payroll with UKG is required
  • Experience with Kronos and SAP; experience with an inhouse payroll/HRIS system
  • Multiprovince payroll experience required
  • Experience in a variety of payroll environments is a plus
  • Knowledge of payroll statutes, principles, common practices and associated legislative requirements
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, technique, and best practices
  • Analytical with advance proficiency in using Excel to perform a variety of manual payroll related calculations (e.g., maternity topup, severances, retroactive payments, etc.)
  • Proven ability to multitask and complete tasks within tight timelines
  • Demonstrated prioritization, organization, time management and followup skills
  • Independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality
  • Ability to work in a constantly changing environment and consistently achieve quality standards
  • Proven ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Detailed oriented
  • Interpersonal, consultation and relationship management skills, to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships at all levels within Linde
