Hours:
minimum 30 hours per week
Length of Employment: 24 months, depending on weather and performance
Salary:
$15.65/hour
Types of Farming:
Vegetable crops, field and greenhouse
Duties:
Cultivate, seed, plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, weed and harvest crops; detect disease and health problems in crops; set and monitor water lines, air flow, and temperature in cold-frames; sort, pack, weigh, examine for quality and prepare products for market and delivery; load and unload products and materials; operate and maintain farm machinery, equipment and trucks; store products into coolers; complete inventory sheets; clean and maintain farm machinery, equipment and buildings; comply with health and safety procedures; perform other general farm duties as required.
Types of Equipment:
Tractor, farm truck, tillage equipment, seed drill, planting equipment, fertilizer, crop sprayer, loader, lift truck, manure spreader, vacuum cooler, power jacks
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
Fast-paced environment, work under pressure, tight deadlines, repetitive tasks, handling heavy loads (40-50lb), physically demanding, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, ability to distinguish between colours, sound discrimination, combination of standing for extended periods, sitting, walking, bending, crouching and kneeling.
Work Site Environment:
Outdoors, confined spaces, wet/damp, noisy, odours, dusty, hot, cold/refrigerated
Essential Skills:
Reading, numeracy, writing, oral communication, working with others, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, job task planning and organizing, significant use of memory, finding information, continuous learning
**Experience in tractor-driving and vegetable farming is an asset.
Salary:
$15.65 per hour
