The Montessori school de l'Outaouais is looking for a full-time permanent English as a second language teacher to start in september.

1. General responsabilities


The English as a second language teacher is a leader in the promotion of English as a language spoken worldwide and essential to life in society, especially in the context of a border city like Gatineau.

Warm and accessible, he or she places great importance on providing the students with a total immersion experience each time they walk through the door of the English classroom.

Leader and specialist in the field, the focus is on the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills related to the teaching of the English language, in addition to providing the students with a colorful experience.


2. Training and experience requirements


This position requires a bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language or a bachelor's degree in linguistics or is in the process of obtaining it.

A teaching certificate issued by a recognized ministry of education in Canada or is in the process of obtaining one is also a requirement.

He or she has at least one year of teaching experience in a preschool, an elementary or a secondary school, which may have been done in the form of substitute teaching.


3. Skills requirement

  • Experience in teaching English as a second language
  • Value and respect the individuality of each child by demonstrating great motivation and a love of work well done
  • Demonstrate team spirit and a good sense of collaboration
  • Project management skills to set up an enriched learning program for the primary school students
  • Capacity to manage a class and animate a group

4. Role and responsibilities
Plan and teach English lessons using a variety of playful and creative teaching techniques from grades 1 to 6;

  • Prepare and implement the English as a second language program according to the requirements of the ministry for each level;
  • Teach basic and more advanced notions of English language in reading, written comprehension (grammar, spelling, text analysis, syntax, etc.), oral comprehension and writing;
  • Leading children's activities by telling them stories, and teaching them songs in English;
  • Assess abilities, skills, interests and needs of children and discuss their progress and problems with their parents and other staff;
  • Prepare, administer and correct evaluations;
  • Identify learning needs of each student.
  • Intervene with students with learning difficulties or behavioral, social or physical problems by consulting school stakeholders (remedial teacher, special education technician, etc.) and referring these children to the appropriate specialist if needed
  • Carry out recovery activities with students or groups of students in order to prevent any difficulty or pedagogical delay;
  • Take charge of the groupclass;
  • Ensure the safety of students during the duration of the English course and transitions;
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
