Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a Facilities Planner for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Facilities Project Administration Department.
Reporting to the Senior Facilities Planner, you will be responsible for coordinating space planning, creating conceptual designs, and recommending building and renovation solutions to optimize the use and development of university physical resources.
You will conduct space needs assessments and audits, coordinate space planning, allocation and optimization, produce test-fit drawings, and perform data analysis and reporting to support informed decision-making to meet client needs, optimize the utilization of campus facilities, and remain responsive to MacEwan strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work closely with the Senior Facilities Planner to identify and prioritize the space needs of different departments and programs, taking into account the evolving needs of the MacEwan community, and make recommendations on how to prioritize space needs based on the institution's strategic goals and priorities;
- Follow and maintain processes to request space changes, expansions, renovations and related space allocation projects;
- Research and stay current on industry best practices, legislation and trends, regularly exploring new and innovative approaches for consideration;
- Evaluate, quantify and determine space accommodation options, staging, timing and sequences; and
- Provide technical and design support and recommendations pertaining to code, zoning and bylaw interpretation and optimal and alternate space use and accommodation.
SKILLS
You will have:
- Strong understanding of building codes and zoning regulations
- Understanding of universal design and best practices
- Strategic thinking, analytical, problemsolving and decisionmaking skills with keen attention to detail
- Ability to act as a positive role model and develop trust by displaying honesty, integrity and ethical conduct at all times
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders
- Creative and entrepreneurial approach to opportunities; ability to think out of the box and encourage others to do so
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Selfmotivated, with excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of a diploma in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
- A minimum of three years of space planning experience within a large and multibuilding enterprise, preferably in an educational setting.
- National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) is considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Working knowledge of a Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) software and MS Project is an asset.
