We are currently seeking a Facility Manager who takes pride in their work and has a strong sense of ownership.
In this role, you will be responsible for the safety, maintenance, and security of United Way's three-floor, 22,000 square-foot building at 580 Main Street and leased spaces.
You will plan, organize, direct, and control the daily operations of facilities and report to the VP of Information Technology.
You will also perform or oversee:
- Building, grounds, and parking lot maintenance and repairs of the facility at 580 Main Street and other leased properties
- Janitorial services
- Repair of machinery, equipment, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and other systems
- Occupational health & safety
- Assist in the monitoring and management of the departmental budget and expenditures
- Manage project work and timelines for Facilities
Specifically, this position handles the following:
- Timely and effective maintenance of building and grounds balancing third-party contracting with personal hands-on execution of repairs and cleaning
- Conduct regular building inspections at an agreedupon interval, document and report findings, and the timely resolution of issues
- Daily monitoring of building environmental and protection systems
- Room setup and tear down, both internal to the building and external at organizational events
- Purchase, distribution, and storage of office equipment
- Alarm Systems
- Act as first contact (after the alarm company) should an afterhours alarm occur. Provide alarm codes to employees, train users, and liaise with the alarm company
- Safety systems
- Maintain all safety systems and develop and upkeep safety procedures
- Fire alarm maintenance and development of evacuation systems and procedures
- Support maintaining a safe work environment and participates in Health and Safety Inspections
- Lead in the tendering, coordinating, and monitoring of contract services (e.g. mechanical, electrical, electronic, elevator, cleaning, security, safety, snow removal, window cleaning, elevator, office equipment, furniture etc.) to support United Way's facility, equipment and property
- Maintain inventories for all nonbranded materials
- Provide reception coverage and support, such as coordination of archiving/destruction of paper files as required
Qualifications
You're a hands-on, high-energy person who takes initiative and demonstrates resourcefulness. You're a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
You also have:
- Direct experience with building systems
- Relevant postsecondary education with a minimum of 2 years related experience in facility management, building maintenance and, administration (or an equivalent combination)
- Handson experience with preventative building maintenance and general repairs of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Demonstrated proficiency using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, Fire and Building Codes
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Bondable (may be asked to provide background check)
- Nonviolent crisis intervention or conflict resolution (or equivalent) training
- Trustworthy and dependable
- Great judgment and interpersonal skills
- Able to sustain moderate muscular exertion and/or physical strain such as climbing tall ladders, or lifting items weighing up to 50 lbs
- Criminal record check and vulnerable persons check conducted within the last year (or will be conducted as a condition of employment)
