The Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) provides specialized care and services to those individuals who require Complex Continuing Care, Post Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, and Transitional Care.

The care and services provided at TGHC help facilitate the patient flow through the health care system and ensures recovery to those individuals who may return to their homes or to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities in their communities.

Manager of Environmental Services

PERMANENT FULL TIME
-
MAIN RESPONSIBILTIES_

  • Responsible for the daytoday effective and efficient operation of the EVS Department at two sites (Church Street and McNicol)
  • Provides daily direction, supervision and coaching to EVS team members and redirects resources as required
  • Facilitates the planning and implementation of Environmental Services to accomplish annual goals and objectives consistent with the vision of TGHC
  • Responsible for recruitment and retention of EVS staff in collaboration with HR
  • Oversees and assists in the development of policies and procedures to ensure that the department functions in accordance with applicable legislation and regulations and meets and exceeds Professional Standards governing the operation of a Hospital and Alternative Health Facility setting
  • Ensures records as required by law are maintained and accurate
  • Ensures the MSDS sheets are up to date and available for all chemicals used and staff are trained and following safety protocols
  • Conducts ongoing quality inspections and reports by doing daily and multiple walk around
  • Participates in the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and does monthly inspections with JHSC members
  • Ensures appropriate processes and controls are in place at the floor level to efficiently manage resources (staff and supplies)
  • Interaction with facility wide staff and management to ensure Environmental Service that provides a quality service
  • Provides orientation to new staff and ongoing training for Environmental staff for job specific and IPAC related issues
  • Creates staff schedule in accordance with CUPE union rules, reviews work assignments, ensures weekly payroll functions and attendance management are carried out accurately
  • Operate within all guidelines as determined by the CUPE Collective Agreement and Hospital Policies
  • Collects/submits workload statistics as required
  • Monitors and approves purchases associated within the designated portion of the budgets assigned, including supplies
  • Assists in the development of the annual budget and monitors operations in relation to staffing, supplies, linen, etc.
  • Responds to all requests from customers both internal and external
  • Preparing requisitions, ordering supplies
  • Ensuring the safe disposal and proper use of cleaning agents
  • Maintaining liaison with regulatory bodies and awareness of regulations impacting on environmental cleaning
  • Responds to all requests/complaints
  • Ability to be available occasional weekends and evening shifts to provide adequate supervision and oversight for EVS team at all sites
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS_

  • A Bachelor's Degree or College Degree in a related field
  • Minimum 7 years Management Experience in EVS in a Hospital setting
  • Member of the CAHA Canadian Administrative Housekeepers Association, CESO, ECRI
  • In depth knowledge and experience in the efficient daily operations of an EVS Department in a Hospital
  • Advanced abilities to lead, inspire and motivate unionized staff
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to multitask and meet daily ad hoc requests
  • Good knowledge of hospital related infection prevention and control practices
  • Thorough knowledge of workplace health and safety obligations in areas such as WHMIS
  • Demonstrated ability in decisionmaking, problem solving, and working under pressure
  • Experience managing competing demands in a fastpaced, multisite, health care environment
  • Superior interpersonal skills and high degree of emotional intelligence
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, maturity, discretion, initiative and judgment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office; advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
  • Excellent attendance record. Must have the physical strength, flexibility and endurance required to perform the job, as determined by the physical needs assessment of the position conducted by Occupational Health Services
