The Pharmaceuticals and Supplementary Health Benefits Branch provides leadership in the development and implementation of initiatives for Alberta's publicly funded drug programs.


The Pharmaceutical Strategy and Foresight Unit leads the identification of, and develops, appropriate responses to key trends and shifts that may affect the operations of publicly funded drug programs.

The Unit develops and advances strategic research priorities, conducts advanced environmental scanning and uses strategic foresight methods.

The Unit is also tasked with advancing integration of Alberta's publicly funded drug programs with other parts of the health system to support positive collaboration and efficient use of resources.


Role:


Reporting to the Manager, Pharmaceutical Strategy, the Pharmaceutical Program Specialist will provide critical support to the Pharmaceutical and Health Benefits Branch to ensure successful development and implementation of continuing care initiatives.


This position will undertake comprehensive research, data collection and analysis, and analyze diverse information sources to support the development, execution and ongoing management of drug policies, programs and planning documents related to drug programs impacted by continuing care initiatives.


The Program Specialist will support the Manager by developing policy options, data analysis and summaries, and drafting briefings and recommendations for consideration by senior leadership.


This role will develop and implement required amendments to drug benefit policies and programs that are impacted by continuing care initiatives.

These activities would include engagement with internal and external stakeholders, and undertaking administrative activities associated with changes or additions to the drug benefits and/or pharmacy services provided to Albertans.


This position manages issues regarding drug and pharmacy regulation, policy and programming, and data surveillance within the purview of the Branch.


Qualifications:

University degree in a related field (e.g. Social Sciences, Health Care Administration, Economics, Law, Public Health, Pharmacy) plus 2 years of directly related experience is required.


Required experience includes:

  • Research and analysis experience
  • Evaluation experience through a policy perspective
  • Developing policy options and recommendations
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong Microsoft Office software
  • Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience in health care system in Alberta
  • Preparing written materials (briefing notes, reports)

The following experience is considered an asset:

  • Working in pharmaceutical or health benefit industry
  • Continuing Care in Alberta

Related experience or education maybe considered as an equivalency basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Salary:

$2,588.06 to $3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,548 - $88,681 / year)

This position is full-time, permanent opportunity located in downtown Edmonton.


This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GoA policy).
