As a Manager, Business Banking Credit:


What you will do:


  • Partner effectively with Commercial Analysts, Relationship Managers and Directors & Team Leads, as well as the Business Credit Risk Management department as appropriate, to understand and enhance credit procedures and related tools.
  • Spearhead workflow within the Commercial Analyst group to build efficiencies and regularly update Management as requested.
  • Ensure the overall portfolio is accurately monitored and controlled, adhering to and administering within approved guidelines and in line with established operating policies and procedures.
  • Assist in providing coverage and growing each portfolio, in your region of responsibility, ensuring the Business Banking unit meets or exceeds annual sales, revenue, volume & new Member objectives with quality.
  • Resolve Member & credit issues to deliver a positive Member experience.
  • Follow and ensure staff are knowledgeable and align with Bank and Industry Codes of Conduct.
  • Understand changing market conditions and remain knowledgeable of relevant industry issues.
  • Build new relationships and deepen existing Member relationships by consistently differentiating Meridian from the competition by providing a unique credit offering to individual Commercial Members.
  • Assist in implementing business plans, goal setting, growth strategies and coaching for the applicable units.
  • Ensure that Commercial Analysts are knowledgeable of and operate within the applicable regulatory and compliance guidelines and Meridian's policies & procedures (including but not limited to: AML, Privacy, Systems & Information Security, etc).
  • Coach Commercial Analysts in developing creative credit solutions that contribute and add value to our Members needs.
  • Assist with Meridian Projects and Initiatives which require Business Banking involvement as the needs arise.
  • Enhance the Meridian brand by participating at network events in your community be the face of the credit union.
  • Identify and respond to changes in the business environment, establishing action plans to address Member issues and priorities
  • Act like an owner by recommending, introducing and referring appropriate Business Partners and Products to Members that are aligned to their needs.

How you will succeed:


  • A minimum of 5 years of commercial lending/adjudication experience in various industries including hospitality & real estate.
  • Postsecondary education or related job training, with detailed knowledge of financial accounting and lending principles.
  • Broad knowledge of special supervision requirements for risk mitigation including collection/work out techniques and remedies.
  • Extensive experience in complex problem loan workouts, with exposure to commercial litigation and insolvency management.
  • Advanced understanding of a wide range of commercial business financing structures, standards, and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of business financial statements, business case proposals and cash flow analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial account operating procedures and related banking services.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving abilities. Ability to quickly prioritize and resolve critical issues as they arise.
  • Proven ability to provide clear communications, advice and guidance consistent with Meridian values.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel & Word.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate with others as a proactive and genuine partner.
  • Commitment to the organization by actively supporting the values and demonstrating alignment with the goals of the organization.
