  • Plains Midstream Canada currently has an opening for a Controls Specialist at our NGL Facility in Fort Saskatchewan Alberta. The Controls Specialist supports Projects, Operations and Maintenance in maintaining and improving the facility Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (ICE) systems and related technology. Assist in standardizing and modernizing these systems while improving functionality, efficiency, and safety across the site. This position reports to the I/E and Controls Team Lead.

Responsibilities:


  • Program and configure Honeywell Experion DCS, SCADA, Rockwell PLC, and Data Historian (PI) systems.
  • Participate in the regular maintenance and upgrades of DCS, PLC, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
  • Administration of Distributed Control System/Network (e.g., System Backups, User Access, Network Switch Configuration, Network Layout, Design, and Maintenance, System Maintenance, Patch and Virus Administration, etc.)
  • Configure and maintain open and proprietary Industrial Communication systems including (but not limited to) Modbus (RTU, TCP, Enron, Plus), OPC, MQTT, Ethernet IP, Honeywell (LCN, UCN, Data Hiway, FTE) networks.
  • Support Preventive Maintenance development and execution for areas of responsibility.
  • Being an active steward of the environment and H&S by supporting the PMC Operations Management System.
  • Assist planners with developing ICE scope for maintenance and turnaround activities.
  • Provide on call support for the Honeywell DCS and Rockwell PLC systems.
  • Assist with Capital development and planning of Instrumentation, Control and Electrical projects.
  • Participate in project FEED studies, HAZOPs and LOPA studies.
  • Assist in data gathering and documentation validation.
  • Develop and oversee execution of testing / commissioning and turnover plans related to ICE systems.
  • Maintain and update project redlines and ensure they are submitted to document control for updates.

Required Qualifications:

  • Postsecondary education Engineering degree, Engineering Technology certificate, Red Seal Instrument or Electrical trade certificate.
  • 5+ years of experience in controls and automation in the oil and gas industry with a strong background in process control, instrumentation, and electrical technology.
  • Experience with hardware systems including but not limited to Rockwell, and Honeywell DCS.
  • Programming experience in RSView, Factory Talk, RS Logix500/5000, KEPware server, Pi Data Historian.
  • Programming and configuration experience in Honeywell Experion DCS for process control.
  • Good understanding of software server technology based on the Microsoft Windows Server platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of Industrial Communication hardware and protocols such as Ethernet, DH+, OPC and Modbus with the ability to help troubleshoot and identify problems.
  • Good organizational and timemanagement skills.
  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Selfstarter, highly motivated, devoted attitude, willing to share knowledge and skills with peers for support.
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team to ensure the safe and reliable operation of facility assets.
  • Experience with PSM elements including PHA's, MOC's and PSSR's.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Word / Excel, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems such as Maximo is an asset.
  • Permanent residency within 120 KM of the Fort Saskatchewan facility is required
  • Valid class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company's drug and alcohol policy including preemployment D&A testing.
