QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:


  • Certificate/degree in health, business, marketing or equivalent knowledge with relevant experience.

Background:


  • Minimum of five years' relevant management experience, preferably in a retirement residence;
  • Must have a high degree of interpersonal skill which would enable the incumbent to deal successfully with residents, their families, staff, stakeholders;
  • Most possess strong leadership skills;
  • Must have good understanding of all relevant Provincial and Federal Acts and Regulations. i.e. RHA, ESA, Human Rights Code, Health Discipline Act., etc.

Personal Requirements:


  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Capable of adapting to different situations and change
  • Keen interest in working with seniors

FUNCTIONS:


  • Manage, coordinate and direct all activities of the residence, including the management of human, physical and financial resources;
  • Ensure the provision of high quality care for residents and resident satisfaction;
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial, personnel and resident data;
  • Be knowledgeable of and practice residence's fire and safety program;
  • Manage residence in accordance with legislative requirements;
  • Develop, implement and update policies and procedures for all departments of the residence to ensure a high level of care for residents and an effective and satisfying operating environment for employees;
  • Provide leadership and motivation to the staff for the achievement of the residences objectives;
  • May develop long range plans for the residence in conjunction with the needs of the residents, the needs of staff, the area in which the residence is located and health care planning agencies;
  • Establish or facilitate new services with the approval of the Vice President;
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate records of residents, personnel and the operations in order to provide regular reports to the Vice President on the activities, needs and problems of the residence;
  • Complete monthend accounting reports and submit to Vice President;
  • Negotiate and enter in contracts required for ordinary operations of business;
  • Liaise and consult with inspectors and professionals in relation to the operation of residence;
  • Participate in, or be represented in, community and other health care, administrative and management areas to maintain, strengthen and broaden concepts, philosophies and abilities as a Manager in a health care residence;
  • Undertake all other responsibilities delegated by the Vice President.
  • Provide supervision and direction for all office and management staff;
  • Assess and monitor staffing needs;
  • Select, hire and as necessary terminate employees;
  • Develop marketing plan;
  • Develop and maintain standards governing nursing and resident care;
  • Carry out surveillance residence care and the residents' general physical and emotional wellbeing to be done discreetly so as to encourage a feeling of independence and privacy in the residents;
  • Develop and maintain standards governing sanitation, safety and housekeeping;
  • Develop and maintain standards governing food preparation and service.
  • Ensure the food preparation complies with standards presented in Canada's Food Guide;
  • Is knowledgeable of Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
