About this Role

Acting as a critical member of the broader Corporate Actuarial Life & Health team, the Associate Director role offers an exciting opportunity to continue your career as an Actuary at TD.

This role requires extensive knowledge of the Canadian valuation process.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Valuation Production, this position is an independent contributor role with no direct reports. However, this position will work closely with Actuarial Analysts and other team members of the Corporate Actuarial team.

As an Associate Director, your accountabilities will include:

  • Execute analysis and draft reports supporting the Corporate Actuarial Life & Health team mandate including reviewing AXIS runs and analysis performed by Analysts, quantifying impacts, and communicating results to technical and non-technical audiences for:
  • Quarterly valuation of actuarial liabilities under Canadian Asset Liability Method (CALM)
  • Quarterly required capital calculations under the Life Insurance Capital Adequacy Test (LICAT)
  • Annual Financial Conditions Test (FCT)
  • Appointed Actuary's Report (AAR)
  • Annual experience studies for lapse, mortality, morbidity and expense
  • Other analysis to support the Corporate Actuarial team
  • Communicate with Corporate Actuarial colleagues to understand modelling requirements and implement required changes to the AXIS valuation model including:
  • New products
  • Basis changes and other methodology changes
  • AXIS version upgrades
  • Work closely with the Corporate Actuarial IFRS17 team to implement required changes to the valuation process for IFRS1
  • Maintain controls around the AXIS model for actuarial modelling and financial reporting including:
  • Data validation
  • Rollforward Analysis
  • Earnings by Source
  • Model Change Management
  • Detail Testing
  • Documentation
  • Support the vetting and audit processes as required by TD Bank
  • Other tasks to support the Corporate Actuarial Life & Heath team's mandate

Job Requirements

  • Communication:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. French is an asset.
  • Expertise with technical language and concepts.
  • Proficient in communicating technical concepts to a nontechnical audience.
  • Analytical Skills:
  • Has strong problemsolving and critical thinking skills. Produces high quality work.
  • Highly Proficient with Moody's AXIS software; knowledge in Regular Life, Universal Life, Disability, Asset and Reinvestment modules is an asset
  • Demonstrated strength with Excel, MS Access and other database or analytical software.
  • Knowledge of Tableau is an asset.
  • Work Management:
  • Projects a professional image and acts accordingly.
  • Has effective and developed organizational ability.
  • Takes responsibility for projects and executes plans in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines during periods of stress.
  • Ability to collaborate and build positive relationships
  • Professional Guidelines:
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, or other quantitative area of study.
  • Working towards Fellowship with the Society of Actuaries and Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
  • Minimum 5 years of Life & Health Insurance actuarial experience.
