Description

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research.

Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.


Position Overview:


The applicant's tasks will involve cleaning and autoclaving of Drosophila vials and bottles and preparation of fresh media for the maintenance of Drosophila stocks and experiments.

Cooking of media and preparation of fresh food vials and bottles are in a 10 to 11 days cycle, with the task been performed on Mondays and 10 days later on a Thursdays.

Washing of old-food vials and bottles and autoclaving can be done on the same day as cooking or later (variable) within a week.

Other tasks as per the description of the research assistant position classifications might apply.


Duties:


  • Primarily to prepare food vials and bottles for Drosophila stocks maintenance and experiments.
  • Cleaning of old food vials and bottles and autoclaving.
  • Other tasks as per the position classification might apply.

Qualifications:


  • Completion of BIOL2301: Genetics.
  • Prior experience/work involving Drosophila.
  • Experience with basic recyclable plastic washing and autoclaving.

The period of work will be from
April 1, August 30, 2024 and the estimated total hours of work will be
0-115 hours.
