COMPENSATION:

As per Collective Agreement

WORKING SCHEDULE:

Monday to Friday
75 hours bi-weekly

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a variety of routine pre analytical laboratory procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Retrieve specimens from Specimen Processing and prepare them for accessioning.
Must be able to lift 15 kg
Opens, separates, numbers and arranges Histology & Cytology specimens for laboratory examination & processing.
Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for processing specimens & for preparing & staining slides.
Performs routine maintenance of laboratory equipment (daily/weekly/monthly) & documents the completion of each task on the appropriate form(s).
Maintains confidential and accuracy of appropriate documents.
Other duties as required/assigned.

SKILLED KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge

Graduate of a Laboratory Technician program or equivalent previous experience.
Medical terminology an asset.
Experience working in Histology preferred.

Technical Skills

Previous experience with accessioning & processing Histology & Cytology specimens is an asset.
Experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of Histology is an asset.

Social Processing Skills

Ability to function in a fastpaced environment & take instruction from senior staff/ supervisor/ manager.
Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a team environment is essential.
Attention to detail is essential.
Organizational skills are essential.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience in word processing preferred.
Ability to work independently and within a group environment & be reliable/accountable for duties assigned.
