Description:


The Disability & Accommodation Consultant is responsible for the disability management of sick leave and long term disability (LTD) cases for all staff and faculty at the University of Toronto.

The incumbent is responsible for providing accommodation services to employees with a disability and those returning to work with temporary job restrictions.

The incumbent liaises with the external LTD service provider on behalf of University and is the provider's University contact on individual cases.

The incumbent provides information and advice to HR and managers on, policy, procedures and best practices related to sick leave, LTD and accommodation.


Qualifications Required:

EDUCATION:


University degree with professional certification in a discipline such as Occupational Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or related health science with knowledge, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience; Additional certification in related field such as CCRC (Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor, RRP (Registered Rehabilitation Professional) / CVP (Certified Vocational Professional), Kinesiologist Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) or Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) preferred.

Certificate of Human Resources Professional (CHRP or CHRL) is an asset.

EXPERIENCE:


Minimum five (5) years of related experience; Well-developed counseling, mediation, relationship management, and case management skills; Knowledge of the University's policies and procedures, including human resource employment policies, current accommodation practices, Environmental Health and Safety services and practices, and employee benefits and insurance plans and processes; Maintain working knowledge of the services and practices of the Community Safety Office, the Workplace Violence Program, policies on harassment and discrimination, Civility Guidelines, and the basic provisions in the various employee policies and collective agreements; Knowledge of human rights legislation and other relevant legislation (e.g.

OHSA, ESA, AODA, WSIB); Experience in performing physical demands analysis and knowledge of ergonomics would be a definite asset.

Superior interpersonal skills; Ability to deal effectively and objectively with emotionally charged situations and upset or distraught individuals; Ability to exercise judgment, tact and discretion; Ability to work in a team-based environment; Proactive and energetic customer service orientation with an awareness of and sensitivity to issues of equity and diversity; Ability to interact effectively with all levels of faculty, staff and students.
