    About the role

    Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Part-Time Shipper/Receiver to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations West team.

    The Supply Chain Operations West team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing technical assistance and maintaining the laboratory, all laboratory equipment and test instruments.

    Formula for success

  • Drawing on your knowledge and training of working with blood and blood related products, you will receive, store, organize, retrieve and assemble Consumables Inventory items.
  • Leveraging your excellent customer service skills, you will collaborate with the Logistics Department as well as internal and external customers to receive supplies and blood specimens and distribute Consumables Inventory orders and Finished Product orders.
  • Following safe warehouse and Standard Operating Procedures, you will load and unload vehicles, operate equipment such as pallet jacks and maintain storage facility within Materials Management (e.g., perform quality inspection, assessment and documentation on incoming products and return of inventory items, monitor temperature controls and product expiry dates, and prepare and distribute bio-waste containers along with required documentation).
  • Desired education and skills

  • Minimum two years' experience as a shipper/receiver or related experience in purchasing, inventory and/or warehouse experience within a logistics environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push carts weighing up to 300 lbs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook with the ability to learn new systems and programs. Typing speed of 45 wpm. Experience with SAP and inventory control programs is an asset.
  • Attention to detail is essential along with the ability to keep accurate records.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills being able to exercise tact, sound judgement and discretion when dealing with others.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, as well as being able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities within short timelines.
  • Experience with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) are an asset.

  • Physical requirements for this role include the ability to lift weight up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and push carts weighing up to 136 kg (300 lbs.).
  • Shifts can start as early as 5am and end as late as 8pm Monday-Sunday.
