High profile leadership role for an experienced facilitator with outstanding collaborative skills


The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is an independent civilian led agency with jurisdiction to investigate incidents of death and serious harm involving BC's police services.

This includes all municipal police services, the RCMP and South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority. The Police Act created the IIO and defines its powers. The IIO reports to the Attorney General, however investigative decisions are operationally independent of the government.

This position will support the service delivery requirements of the IIO Investigations team.

Working with the Chief of Investigations, Deputy Chief of Investigations, Team Directors, Investigators and community outreach resources, this position will implement various strategies to serve diverse members of the community who are either impacted by or have an interest in IIO investigations.

The focus of this position will be to provide services to Affected Persons (AP), their families and communities, facilitate investigative issues with the AP and their families and ensure awareness of AP related services within the investigation.


Those affected or interested in the IIO include affected persons and their families, police agencies, media, government, community agencies, First Nations/ Metis/other Aboriginal Leadership, people of diverse cultural background, communities, members of the public and other civilian oversight agencies in Canada and internationally.

This position will require the incumbent to be appointed as an investigator (with Peace Officer designation) and will require travel and participation in an on-call rotation of generally one week on and one week off.


Job Requirements:


  • Postsecondary degree in a field related to investigative social work, health or social sciences, criminology, law, investigation and enforcement, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in an investigative context where both the use of authority and influence were required.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing direct client service to vulnerable populations, and those dealing with crisis, trauma and loss.
  • Preference may be given to qualified applicants who meet the job requirements and identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
  • Must hold a valid BC Driver's licence or eligible to obtain a valid BC Driver's licence.
  • Must be able to respond 24/7 provincewide in a scheduled rotation.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
