PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:


Reporting to the Senior Director, Communications, the Coordinator, Communications' primary responsibility is to support communications, editorial services and media/public relations for hockey and non-hockey events required for all Senators Sports & Entertainment companies.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Communications - Hockey

  • Assists in coordinating editorial access to players, coaching staff and management
  • Manages the press box and day of game help on game nights responsible for generating press box seating chart, booth labels and press box troubleshooting/executing visiting team PR needs; game notes and stats/press credential distribution
  • Writes daily NHL mandated game notes package for each regular season and playoff game
  • Serves as the lead communications contact for the Senators annual development and rookie camps
  • Prepares, edits and disseminates news releases and media advisories as required
  • Assists in the set up of news conferences, media briefings and other media events in conjunction with other departments
  • Manages accreditation requests, media lists and contact information
  • Assists in the hiring and managing of department intern(s) and in the execution of their responsibilities
  • Assists in editing several editorial projects including the department's media guide and its season in review guide and oversees the development and publication of annual development camp and rookie camp guides
  • Assists the facilitation of all public relations responsibilities including onsite media relations at community events

Communications - Canadian Tire Centre

  • Executes news releases and media advisories for Canadian Tire Centre events and concerts
  • Responsible for posting news updates on CTC website and editing all website copy
  • Develops, maintains and monitors Canadian Tire Centre social media accounts while facilitating venue related inquiries on all social platforms
  • Serves as media relations lead for events credential gathering and distribution, photo/video restriction enforcement, social media updating
  • Oversees media relations staffing for events
  • Works directly with show promoters to plan, book and execute advance PR opportunities for various venue events and family shows
  • Liaises directly with on site tour manager, promoter, or spokesperson for events, where applicable
  • Oversees accreditation requests by working with show promoters and local media

General communications:


  • Provides communications' support for all internal departments as required, including key message development, press releases, copywriting, proof reading, etc.
  • Assists in developing strategies to encourage coverage of both the Senators and Canadian Tire Centre
  • Oversees communications and publications support for any event related to the organization (Bell Capital Cup, Bell Sensplex, Senators Community Foundation etc.)
  • Provides communications support at Senators Sports & Entertainment community initiatives

Requirements:


  • University or college graduate in communications, public relations or sports administration
  • Three to five years of previous experience in communications, public relations or sports administration
  • Selfmotivated, confident, multitasker who thrives in a highpace environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Well versed in social media across all platforms
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Excellent personal communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset
  • Ability to travel inside North America
