Your role
As part of the leadership team for CBC Studios, this role requires the planning and development for overall operational requirements (e.g. peoplepower, facilities and technologies) for Entertainment, Sports, Unscripted and News Specials productions, ensuring the efficient use of resources for an audio/video based production. Assures the performance of technical resources to meet both industry, statutory and CBC standards.


We are looking for a leader with a passion for supporting and developing a diverse team, who consistently strives for technological innovation in a live production environment.

This role reports to the Sr. Director, CBC Studios, and works closely with many teams and departments for CBC english services.


Responsibilities:


  • Collaborates with production, design and management personnel, and external clients on the capabilities of personnel and technical facilities for English Services.
  • Plans and supervises the setup and operation of studio and mobile resources including all technical and design elements. Ensures technical quality meets production's needs, working environment is safe, and applicable labour codes are followed.
  • Proven experience in developing and sustaining highlyengaged, wellperforming and adaptive teams. An understanding that coaching and collaboration are key methods in helping teams move forward to achieve production goals.
  • Attends production meetings; conducts remote surveys; leads negotiations with outside agencies for the use of their facilities or assets; advises production on planning, budgeting and scheduling of staff and facilities. Advises on technical resources and business issues.
  • Develops and supports technical budgets for rentals by preparing estimates and summaries for production. Works collaboratively with management teams.
  • Engages temporary staff; suggests technologies and workflows according to production requirements for specific projects. As necessary, represents the Corporation in technical matters related to independent and coproductions.
  • When required, initiates and participates in specialised research for upgrading, rebuilding, and creating technical production facilities.
  • Supports our goals of Equity and Inclusion, and is committed to advancing Sustainability in our approach to production.
  • Extensive knowledge of current and emerging technologies, crafts and production processes to supervise diverse work groups in moderate to complex production activities.
  • Must have working knowledge of HR corporate policies, the CMG collective agreement, and CBC business objectives.
  • Requires strong budgetary and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and work on multiple assignments simultaneously. Adaptability to a broad range of production scopes is important.
  • Experience and ability to motivate, inspire and work with a diverse team. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are key.
  • Ability to understand described artistic vision and achievement within the practical limitations of the technology, personnel, workflows and production budget and be able to match appropriate skill sets to productions' requirements.
  • Problem solving, negotiation skills, and a passion for details and documentation are a must in this role.
  • Current expert level knowledge of both digital and traditional broadcast workflows and production requirements is key. Requires a high level of innovation, both in a multicamera studio and remote production environment.
  • Ability to work overtime including evenings, weekends, overnights and occasional business travel is needed
Requires a minimum of 10 years in a live content production environment.

Working knowledge of French is an asset in this role.
