Monday to Friday,40 hours/week, 11:00am - 7:00pm.

Position Summary:

The Foster Clerk establishes relationships, communicates, and engages with Foster

Parents to ensure a positive animal-foster volunteer experience. Regular, daily
involvement with other WHS departmental staff, volunteers, vendors, and community

partners. Provides excellent service to carry out foster volunteer-animal appointments
and follow-ups.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Set up and maintain foster-related files for animals and foster parents.
  • Organize supplies for foster parents and account for equipment loaned.
  • Perform follow-up calls, provide support to foster parents, and schedule any health
exams, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgeries as required.


  • Schedule pick up/return appointments for animals awaiting foster.
  • Educate new foster parents on responsibilities of animal care.
  • Maintain foster supplies in an organized manner.
  • Offer resources to foster parents and support team with outreach opportunities to
recruit new foster parents.

  • Communicate with other Foster/Intake staff and volunteers to ensure coordination
of placements and follow-ups, supplies, and other activities.


  • Other duties as reasonably assigned.

Authority to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities within established policies and
procedures.

Regular, daily involvement with other WHS departments, volunteers, and customers.

Abilities, Skills & Knowledge:


  • Exemplary customer service skills and experience working with the public
without judgment.


  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when completing all tasks.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Ability to handle sometimes large, unruly dogs, fractious cats, and a variety of
wildlife.


  • Basic knowledge of animal care, animal behaviour, and health issues.
  • Ability to work under mínimal supervision.

Education, Training & Experience:


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • More than 6 months and less than or including 12 months experience required.
The following qualifications are desired and would be considered assets:

  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience working with a nonprofit.
  • Any previous animal health care experience.
  • Fear free certification.
