Position Overview
This position is responsible for assisting the Technician, Pharmacy, Room Technician and Veterinarian as requested.

The role also is required to prepare for surgeries and procedures, facility cleaning and hygiene, re-stocking exam rooms and treatment areas and maintain equipment for Barn Door Veterinary Care.

The position also maintains pharmaceutical and stock inventories working with staff to ensure the most cost-effective use and disbursement of inventory.

Time will be scheduled to ensure the incumbent will effectively be able to attend to their responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Technician, Room Technician and Veterinarian as needed and when requested.
  • Prepare for surgeries and procedures.
  • Complete facility cleaning ensuring proper hygiene methods are followed.
  • Restock exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels as materials, equipment and stock are issued, transferred within the Clinic, or sold to the public using manual or computerized inventory systems. This includes ensuring the most costeffective use and disbursement of inventory.
  • Organizes stock and inventory in the most efficient and effective ways.
  • Work with, and collaborate with, staff to resolve stock control issues and backorders.
  • Compile inventory reports, recording the quantity, type and value of materials, equipment, and stock on hand, using manual or computerized inventory systems.
  • Prepare requisition orders to replenish materials, equipment, and stock.
  • Maintain stock rotation and dispose of and account for outdated stock.
  • Enter data for production scheduling, stock replenishment/relation and inventory adjustments.
  • Reconcile physical inventories with computer counts.
  • Dispense supplies and pharmaceuticals, including unloading and unpacking stock, equipment and materials and reconciling them to requisitions. This includes filling prescriptions according to patient records and needs and receiving payment from clients.
  • Rotate stock including checking expiry dates and returning expired products.
  • Provide backup relief in other areas of the clinic such as reception, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Proven work experience with a minimum of 2 years in a veterinary, or similar clinic.
  • Knowledge of veterinary issues and terminology.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, preferably with appropriate certification or commitment to obtain it.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, set work priorities, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong initiative, work ethic, and integrity.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a teambased environment.

Work Environment
The Barn Door Veterinary Care Clinic is a busy, six-day per week operation.

Expectations for this position are that they provide services in the clinic and work up to forty (40) hours per week.

Flexibility is available with hours of work when necessary and is to be discussed with the Clinic Coordinator.
