Rotation and Shift: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off Day

Grey Rock has been awarded the project to complete Dam Shoreline Protection for seven kilometres of dam at the Menihek Generating Station in Labrador.

This job includes drill and blast, crushing/screening and placement of materials along the dam. The project is scheduled for three years.


Job Summary:


The
Civil Works Superintendent is responsible for the overachieving task of ensuring project excellence through outstanding leadership, by having their key focus on effective project execution, quality, health and safety and people.

Working with the project team, Superintendent is responsible for maintaining the highest quality of work, supervising all operations field personnel, and administering good construction safety practices with all on-site activities, providing strong and high quality focused leadership, excellent technical construction expertise gained through years of working on complex and large scale civil construction projects.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


Oversee the daily organization in the field on multiple work fronts, including safety of, and the delegation of duties for Civil Foreman and Field personnel.

Develop/contribute to daily operational and project plans, and participate in deliverable level planning with Project Management

Ensure a safe work environment for themselves and fellow employees; in compliance with all safety
policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task

Ensure that the field operations are well organized, and efficient in the respective operation

Establishing goals and objectives for the field operations of the company

Ensure the planning process is followed including meeting the Critical Path schedule as developed by the Project Management team

Make recommendations for organizational changes

Ensure that construction budget targets are met or exceeded, through on-site supervision and helping to establish action plans to beat the budget

Trouble shoots difficult construction problems

Motivate personnel / subcontractors / suppliers and service providers to maintain morale on the project

Review subordinates periodically and make recommendations for improvements

Make sure job cost feedback is furnished to subordinates; ensuring time sheets, invoices and other job costing material is properly filled in

Challenge others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model and mentor

Inspire coworkers to attain goals and pursue excellence

Aware of the Critical Path Schedule and assists in updating as required


Health, Safety and Environment Responsibilities:

Adhere to local and externally relevant health and safety laws and policies.

Adhere to company HSE system.

Ensure appropriate priority given to HSE issues.

Lead by example. Wear PPE & seatbelts, observe road rules, etc.

Hold supervisors accountable for HSE & regulatory responsibilities.

Ensure consistent, fair and equitable discipline for HSE rules violations.

Implement both positive & negative consequences for site HSE performance.

Participate in investigation of incidents as appropriate.

Assist with safety meetings.

Align workforce with TRIFR Target

Ensuring safety of fellow workers


Human Resources Responsibilities:

Manage all staff reporting to the position as to effectively recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, delegate and monitor their activities.

Organize and manage operation meeting.

Recruit personnel and oversee development and maintenance of staff competence in required areas.

Ensure consistent, fair and equitable discipline for rules violations as per the corrective action policy.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

The following shall have been acquired through a minimum of 10 years' supervisory experience in a heavy civil construction at supervisor level with experience in cast in place concrete (batching, forming, reinforcement and finishing), placement of precast concrete and associated earth works.

High attention to detail in completing work tasks

Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of civil construction; Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills

High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning

Comply with all safety policies and procedures

Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times

Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writi
