Celebrating our 7th year in Summer Camp operations, Rooks to Cooks is GTA's leading culinary school for children.

We recognize that learning new skills, especially cooking, can be intimidating; that's why we build our programs to be fun, inviting, as well as intensive.

Our programs and services always emphasize themes of healthy eating and teach our students how to live a fulfilling healthy life.

Our mission is to empower our students to become more independent and self-sufficient while helping them to find their voice and build self-confidence through learning how to cook/bake.


Ramping up our efforts to ensure our campers have a memorable summer, we are currently recruiting Kitchen Assistants, the backbone of our summer camp program.

These are full-time positions working 40 hours per week (occasional overtime may be required) for the duration of the summer, from the beginning of July to the end of August, with some sites starting the last week of June.


Reporting to the Lead and Sous Chef Instructors, Dishwasher/Kitchen Assistant is an integral part of the team, responsible for managing all the inventory and mise en place preparation, keeping the space organized and tidy, conducting all dishwashing, and assisting the counsellor with break time supervision.

Without them our campers could not have a fun, safe, and educational summer. A full list of the responsibilities is below;


Responsibilities:


  • Support lead chef in building and maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment for campers and staff
  • Wash dishes and take the garbage out
  • Manage and organize inventory of food and supplies
  • Conduct mise en place preparation for campers
  • Sweep and mop floors daily
  • Execute and maintain cleanliness standards as prescribed by head office
  • Monitor and help execute the cooking processes of daily recipes
  • Help define and reinforce camp rules and expectations
  • Support camp counsellor with break time activities, games and exercises as outlined in the camp counselor manual
  • Help supervise and support campers to ensure their safety and accurate execution of the recipes on hand
  • Build authentic relationships with campers and their families
  • Assist with various aspects of the Friday night Pop up restaurant, including prep work and cleaning

Necessary Experience & Skills:


  • 2 + years working in the culinary industry
  • 1+ years dishwashing experience
  • Experience working with children is an asset
  • Organized, detail oriented and punctual
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about working with children
  • Proactive, reliable and safety conscious
  • Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours and lift at least 20 lbs

Required Qualifications:


  • Food Handlers Certificate
  • Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR Certification
