Purposes:


  • Ensure that the Awahsuk Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) Preschool provides a nurturing, culturally sensitive care and education program for young children, consistent with the philosophy and guidelines stated in our policy and procedures manual.
  • Ensure that Awahsuk AHS Preschool provides a familyfriendly atmosphere.
  • Lead and coordinate preschool staff, ensuring all legal and contractual requirements are met.
  • Ensure that the preschool staff follow best practices.

Job Duties:

Responsibility: Liaison and coordination with the Host Agency.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide reports on activities as required or requested by the Host Agency.
  • Keep the Host Agency informed about important developments at the preschool.
  • Attend meetings at the Host Agency, time permitting.
  • Work with the O'siem Early Year's Manager at the Host Agency for accurate financial reporting.

Responsibility:
Accurate and responsible financial management of the preschool.


Accountabilities:

  • Oversee daily program expenditures, ensuring that funds are spent within budget guidelines.
  • Prepare financial reports for the Host Agency and funders as required.
  • Review financial reports with the O'siem Early Year's Program Manager and discuss any irregularities.
  • Review/Navigate annual budget and monthly cash flow forecasts from the O'siem Early Year's Manager.

Responsibility:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the preschool.


Accountabilities:

  • Work closely with and support the Senior Educator in all aspects of programming.
  • Work closely with the Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) Consultant to coordinate services by ASCD staff at the preschool, and to access referrals for children.
  • Ensure that the program is evaluated as required by funders and the Host Agency.
  • Problem solve in daily programming as required.
  • Ensure that adequate security is maintained in the facility.
  • Participate in and coordinate special activities.
  • Maintain a filing system for all preschool records.
  • Ensure that the preschool's policy and procedures are respected and implemented.
  • Chair weekly staff meetings.

Responsibility:
Lead and manage staff.


Accountabilities:

  • Participate in hiring staff for the preschool.
  • Carry out probationary and annual performance in collaboration with the O'siem Early Year's Program Manager, for assessment of classroom staff members in collaboration with the Senior Educator and Host Agency, and when regarding ASCD staff, with the ASCD Consultant.
  • Support the Senior Educator in her staff supervision role, with problem solving and conflict resolution as necessary.
  • When the Senior Educator is not available, provide guidance and supervision to classroom staff.
  • Maintain administrative records for staff and volunteers and submit them to the Host Agency as required.
  • Ensure that all personnel policy and procedures of the Host Agency and preschool are respected and implemented.

Responsibility:
Provide advocacy, liaison and referral services to parents at the preschool.


Accountabilities:


  • Network with other community resources.
  • Help establish information sharing with other community services.
  • Make parents aware of community services an how to access them.
  • Provide or make referrals for appropriate services as required.
6.


Responsibility:
Facilitate family involvement.


Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the development and support of a Parent Advisory Committee with parents of children in the preschool.
  • Plan and implement appropriate PAC training opportunities, as resources and funding allow.
  • Ensure that parents have opportunities to participate in planning the program's special events and functions.
7.


Responsibility:
Ensure that legal and contractual obligations are met.


Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that all Licensing requirements are met on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure that reporting requirements of funders are met.
  • Ensure that all requirements to implement provisions of legislation to ensure the safety of children are in place.

Qualifications:


  • A validated ECEA, ECE Certificate or ECE Diploma and license to practice in British Columbia
  • A valid childcare First Aid certificate
  • A clear tuberculosis test and immunization booster
  • A clear criminal record check
  • Medical clearance from a physician stating you are physically, mentally and emotionally capable of working with young children
  • Understanding of the _Community Care Facilities Act _and Li
