Summary of the Purpose of the Role:
- Act as the first point of contact for all electrical engineering related topics for all Paper Excellence mills
- Lead, check and internally approve external electrical engineering work, through all stage gate phases performed in connection with capital projects
- Communicate closely and exchange experiences and best practices with team of mill and project managers
Role Functions**:
- Maintain currency in understanding electrical design and conditions pertaining to a variety of operational improvements or additions within the overall pulp & paper industry
- Key contact in Global Technology (GT) for all electrical engineering related matters such as single line diagrams, power distribution, grounding, electrical drives, etc., familiarity with regulatory interfacing for transmission & distribution, islanding, etc., to coordinate with other team disciplines
- Lead work to improve production electrical projects from conception through commercialization in close cooperation with the mills and the GT Technological Directors
- Comply with external and internal jurisdictions like ISO, OHS, CSA, NFPA, and organizational safety standards and practices, including process safety management (PSM) practices
- Maintain awareness with, and compliance to, environmental, social, and governance (ESG)
- Coordinate electrical engineering resources
- Mentor junior personnel for practice and career development
- Maintain familiarity with consultants, vendors, and suppliers, specific to support the pulp/paper industry.
- Participate with technical associations
- Maintain familiarity with various mill platforms in legacy and upgrading systems
- Ability to be registered as a professional engineer with EGBC and to maintain good standing
Role within company leadership:
- Report regularly to Director Engineering Paper Excellence, and, as assigned, to the related mill operations or specific GT areas
- Support the corporate functions of Paper Excellence by providing needed routine and ad hoc information as required
- Support in case of M&A topics whereby electrical engineering expertise may be needed
Qualifications:
- B,ASc, B.Eng, or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years with wide range of AC & DC power installations complete with experience in complex capital projects with a significant electrical portion (both brownfield and greenfield)
- Demonstrated prior success in team environments to deliver studies, installations, startups, performance commissioning on time and within budget
- Familiarity with SAP, contract negotiations, and executive reporting
