As a Landscape Technician in Parks and Roads Services you will be responsible for working collaboratively with internal stakeholders as well as members of the development industry to certify and accept both internal and developer constructed landscaping infrastructure.

These positions are responsible for ensuring that landscaping projects are completed / built to City of Edmonton construction standards; safe, functional, aesthetically pleasing and sustainable.

Other duties of the Landscape Technician II will be to:

  • Mitigate long term maintenance liabilities
  • Ensure developer contributed landscaping infrastructure meet all the appropriate requirements prior to acceptance into City inventory
  • Monitor, approve or reject landscaping infrastructure for all developer contributed assets within a designated geographical area
  • Design drawing review, provide comments on landscape design circulations from internal and external sources
  • Review constructed landscaping from a safety, vegetation health (vigour) and ease of maintenance perspective
  • Inspect overland drainage concerns, ensuring that improper site drainage does not create longterm impacts that would require future mitigation
  • Construction and establishment period audit inspections and reports
  • Perform site visits related to internal or external inquiries, notifications, complaints etc.
  • Coordinate to provide Construction Completion Certificates (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) inspections as per servicing agreement requirements
  • Other duties will be performed as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of a twoyear technical diploma, or higher level education in Landscape Technology, Horticulture, Forestry, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in the landscape industry or parks landscape construction.
  • Previous experience with landscape inspections is an asset
  • Construction Management Certificate would be considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of design and construction
  • Knowledge of landscape and construction techniques and terminology
  • Knowledge of Edmonton Landscape Design and Construction Standards Volume
  • Landscaping and Landscaping Inspector Guideline Manual
  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and in business / technical writing
  • Attention to detail and the ability to verify and assess documentation
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Applications (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar)
  • Proven customer service skills and excellent communication skills
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the work of this class
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
