The home base location for this role is flexible within the contract areas, including
Dawson, Shabaqua, and Kekebeka.

What Does A Foreperson Do?:

The Foreperson will work with the day-to-da field maintenance operations on all highway infrastructures within the Maintenance Contract. The Foreperson will also assist in the patrol for deficiencies throughout the contract area.


As a Foreperson, You Will:


  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, subcontractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual Health, Safety and Environmental obligations for the staff and public are met
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections
  • Drive quality, efficiency, and productivity of the operation
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards, that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed
  • Estimate time, materials and equipment required to complete tasks
  • Call and schedule subcontractors and negotiate terms of service
  • Act as the primary point of contact for public inquiries, MTO authorities and staff in emergency situations
  • Identify training needs for staff. Coordinate and facilitate the trainings as needed
  • Ensure Job Hazard Analysis are reviewed
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, support patrollers to plan and prioritize work.
  • Monitor costs, understand cost allocation across different performance requirements of the contract and identify ways to control costs
  • Perform maintenance duties on highway infrastructures, as outlined in the contract performance measures
  • Assist with investigations and respond to inquiries from the general public, external agencies, and liaise with the area supervisor to resolve problems
  • Aid the Emergency Response team to implement an emergency plan in situations such as spills, accidents, inclement weather, etc.
  • Other tasks as required

What You'll Bring:


  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the highway maintenance and/or road construction industry
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the applicable OH&S legislations, MTO standard, and Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 traffic control
  • A valid Class DZ Driver's License or willingness to obtain one
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Superb interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Willingness to work assigned days, nights and weekend shifts as required, and respond to calls after hours
