Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis (G-W WIC) is a feminist community-based organization providing services to women and their children who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence or human trafficking.


Marianne's Place shelter requires 1 permanent and 1 contract (8 months)


Full time Residential Support Counsellors
Weekly rotating schedule of days, afternoons and night shifts, Classification 111b Level 1-4


Requisite Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the skills and abilities to join Marianne's Place team.

Responsibilities include:


  • Support Women and their children in their experiences of violence, through individual and group support.
  • Providing residents and callers with support, options, referrals and connections to community resources.
  • Provide traumabased crisis intervention and crisis counselling services to callers and residents.
  • Facilitate dialogue and manage concerns related to resident relationships, house rules etc.
  • Provide programming, advocacy, accompaniment and crisis support
  • Perform requisite administration, security and maintenance; specific to the shelter program.
  • Provide practical support and information to help women navigate various systems and services.
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in social work, or equivalent
  • Minimum 13 years experience working with and advocating for women and children.
  • Specialized training in sexual violence counselling, childhood sexual abuse issues and human trafficking.
  • Specialized knowledge of trauma, mental health and substance use and support needs.
  • Proven ability in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, trauma informed approach, harm reduction support and advocacy for women and children who have experienced violence
  • Proven ability to work from an antioppressive, antiracist, feminist counselling framework.
  • Experience working in a residential setting.
  • Awareness of rural and cultural barriers abused women and their children face.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development and effects of exposure to violence on children.
  • Demonstrated experience with program planning, development, delivery and evaluation
  • Solid administration and organizational skills, with strong computer competency.
  • Working knowledge of current community resources.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and CPIC.
  • Second language highly preferred.
  • Fully Vaccinated for Covid19
