Advocis is seeking a strategic and operationally strong Associate Director, Chapter Relations to lead and strengthen our national network of 40 chapters.
This role serves as the primary liaison between National and chapter leadership, ensuring governance integrity, strategic alignment, operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability Operating within a lean national office, this is a hands-on role that requires both high-level judgment and personal ownership of execution.
The Associate Director acts as a trusted advisor, coach and accountability partner to volunteer leaders—balancing support with standards.As Advocis enters its next century, this role will modernize chapter operations by streamlining workflows, strengthening service standards and implementing scalable practices that enhance oversight, efficiency and member impact.
Key ResponsibilitiesGovernance, Board Relations & Chapter Health
Serve as primary staff liaison to Chapter Presidents and the Chapter Leadership Council (CLC)
Build strong, credible relationships with volunteer leaders and reinforce governance standards
Support board onboarding, transitions and succession planning
Oversee chapter structural changes and required Board approvals
Monitor chapter health (governance, leadership capacity, financial sustainability, membership trends) and implement intervention plans where required
Elevate material risks and issues to the TFAAC Board as appropriate
Standardize governance tools and practices to ensure consistency and reduce administrative burden
Strategy Execution, Growth & Accountability
Translate National priorities into practical chapter-level action plans
Lead execution of key initiatives (education and CE growth, membership engagement and retention strategies)
Drive accountability for implementation, timelines and measurable outcomes, reinforcing national standards across chapters
Coordinate cross-functionally to ensure integrated execution and remove operational barriers
Promote scalable best practices and engagement frameworks across chapters
Financial Oversight, Budget Coaching & Sustainability
Partner with Finance and Accounting to support chapter budgeting, reporting, financial transparency, and sustainability indicators
Serve as a liaison between National Finance and chapter leaders to ensure clear understanding of expectations and processes
Coach and guide chapters in responsible budgeting practices; support leaders who may have limited financial management experience
Monitor adherence to approved budgets and proactively address variances or risks
Escalate financial concerns or sustainability risks as appropriate
Collaborate with Legal and Finance on chapter-facing contracts and policies
Operational Excellence & Network Modernization
Assess and redesign chapter workflows to improve efficiency, clarity and scalability
Implement standardized processes, automation and effective use of existing systems
Establish and uphold service standards for chapter inquiries and support
Develop simple dashboards and performance tracking tools to monitor engagement, governance compliance and chapter sustainability
Build repeatable playbooks and frameworks for governance, communications and national initiatives
Foster a culture of continuous improvement across the chapter network
Conference & Network Leadership
Lead planning and execution of the annual Chapter Leadership Conference
Support regional leadership engagement initiatives and national chapter calls
Ensure events reinforce strategic priorities and deliver measurable engagement value
Ideal Candidate Profile
7+ years progressive experience in association management, governance support, professional services or financial services
Experience advising volunteer boards or senior stakeholders
Strong business acumen and financial literacy
Demonstrated experience leading process improvement or modernization initiatives
Systems thinker with strong process design capability
Confident communicator with executive presence and sound judgment
Highly organized with strong execution discipline and follow-through
Experience in financial services and/or membership-based organizations preferred
