WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

The Electrical Mechanical Supervisor's Safety responsibilities are related to physical structures and aspects of the environment. The position recommends safety plans and best practices.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans, organizes, and directs the operations of the Maintenance Department.

Plans, organizes, and supervises the Capital renewal and maintenance budget including the supervision of contractors. Reviews work and invoices prior to authorizing payment. Ensures contractors have required Health & Safety training. Oversees contractors as related to facility improvements, and maintenance.


Develops and maintains preventive maintenance plan for complete building envelope (HVAC, electrical, fire alarm systems, public address systems, security panels, energy management, sprinkler systems, plumbing retrofits, mechanical partition doors, hoists, backflow prevention, science lab hoods, generators, elevator lifts, and fire hydrants).

Provides effective staff supervision and where necessary applies performance management strategies to address concerns. Acts as a resource person and ensures effective communication with staff.


Assists with Preparation of Proposals (RFP), Request for Quotation (RFQ), Tenders for Facility needs (mechanical improvements); for submission to the Manager of Facility Services.

Obtains price quotes and prepares purchase requisitions and reviews tenders for contract maintenance.

Liaises with Manufacturers/ Vendors/ Suppliers and In-School Administration.

Oversees all school renovation projects relating to mechanical/electrical systems.


Monitors, updates and trains staff on the Health and Safety programs related to facilities and operation: Fire Safety, Asbestos Programs, Confined Spaces, Hot Work, etc.

Reports unsafe conditions as soon as possible and practices safe work procedures and wears protective equipment.

Takes every reasonable precaution to protect a worker's health and safety. Informs workers of job hazards and ensures they are trained to do their jobs safely.

Ensures that workers work safely and use the equipment and protective devices properly where required.

Performs monthly inspection of CEC to ensure there are no health and safety concerns.

Collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, maintenance, and custodial personnel about project opportunities and / or concerns.

Prepares required reports and maintains all appropriate records. Completes some accounting functions (e.g. purchase orders and approvals).


Establishes and maintains ongoing effective communication with school principals, engineers, architects, general contractors, maintenance staff, and city and government officials.

Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THIS POSITION:
The following are minimum requirements of this position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also apply.

Certified licensed tradesperson in electrical, mechanical, plumbing or other related field.


Two (2) year community college diploma in a related field (Facility Maintenance/ Management and/ or Building Sciences) or willing to obtain.

Certified in Basic Occupational Health & Safety or willing to obtain.

Valid Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.

Five (5) years' experience in facility or building supervisory/maintenance experience, as a licensed tradesperson, and supervisory experience.


Other relevant skills and abilities include:
Sound knowledge in the administration of a collective agreement.

Working knowledge of Requests for Proposals and specification processes.
