The Superintendent is responsible for the optimal functioning of day-to-day field operations to ensure that work is completed on time and within budget.

The experienced and fully competent Superintendent implements the repairs and upgrades to plan and schedule, ensures safety and quality control, coordinates work with internal client representatives and suppliers and delegates work to field employees and subcontractors.


Superintendents represent the company to external and internal Stakeholders in a professional manner, one that reflects the value and integrity of the company and enhances FRPD's market position.

The Construction Equipment Superintendent will assist with planning all FRPD equipment maintenance and repair requirements.

They will ensure that the short and long-term objectives of FRPD's equipment maintenance priorities are achieved by utilizing FRPD resources and service providers as required.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates leadership in Health and Safety, Environment, and Quality programs.

Effectively applies the requirements of applicable OH&S Acts, regulations, and codes as well as FRPD's Integrated Management System (IMS) with all employees and subcontractors.

Identifies current and future issues relevant to equipment and service delivery, prioritizes issues, and develops strategic solutions to improve the delivery of service and equipment readiness.

Oversees maintenance company construction equipment (cranes, derricks, barges, boats, and ancillary equipment), ensuring high serviceability and reliability of equipment deployed on Projects.

Ensures all equipment requiring inspection and certification are current and compliant with WorkSafe BC regulations at all times, and available for use.

Tracks maintenance and material costs to provide data for developing annual budgets and forecasts.

Supervises and develops the Welding and Mechanic forepersons to maximize the efficiency of the departments and balance costs incurred while maintaining a high level of internal customer service and team morale.

Ensures an ongoing system to collect and record work requests and report back to the originator upon completion of work.

Establish and maintain communication links with Project Managers and Superintendents, operators on rigs, crane operators, and others.
Sets a proactive and positive work environment with other equipment/yard personnel.

Supervises the Equipment Coordinator in all aspects of their responsibility and contributes to their annual PDR and evaluations, as required.


QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

Red Seal Heavy Equipment Mechanic preferred.
Proven experience maintaining conventional cranes and various heavy construction equipment
Ten years maintenance experience with 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
Well-developed problem-solving abilities.
Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
Ability to develop strong working relationships with unionized and non-unionized workforce.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Working Conditions:
Base Location in the New Westminster Equipment & Yard Office, however, sporadic out-of-town travel will be required.
