Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance at the Mamquam facility, a hydro-power facility.

With safety of yourself and all those around you as the highest priority, the

Maintenance Technician is expected to:

  • Maintain hydropower plant equipment including turbines, generators, transformers, pumps, hydraulics, valves, diesel engines, air compressors, fire systems, mobile equipment, piping and other mechanical or electrical equipment;
  • Engage in maintenance activities, troubleshooting and repairing equipment;
  • Effectively using the Computerized Maintenance Management and Drawing.
Management Systems;

  • Conduct safety and environmental inspections;
  • Operate the plant, including monitoring all operational equipment through the use of PLC's, HMI's and visual observations;
  • Perform other functions as required including clearing of intake screens, plant cleaning, snow removal, mobile equipment operation and other assorted tasks;
  • Provide technical expertise, conduct prejob briefings and post job debriefings, monitor tasks, assist other Technicians in investigating and resolving problems, and report incidents, accidents or safety concerns;
  • Provide input to Management on business plans, site projects and maintenance plans as needed;
  • Ensure the delivery of optional results against appropriate performance metrics such as budget targets, station unit availability, reliability and capacity;
  • Identify process improvement or optimization opportunities; including researching and recommending product procurement options;
  • Provide mentoring to fellow employees to achieve employee development goals and objectives and participates in plant committees or teams as requested, such as Health,
Safety & Environmental, Emergency Response Planning, etc.;

  • Monitor and analyze equipment performance and perform trend analysis and prepare reports concerning plant operation, production and maintenance activities;
  • Coordinate maintenance and equipment outages with other Technicians, as required;
  • Demonstrate a high level of performance and behavioral skills, including the ability to multitask, to make independent decisions, to display strong verbal and written communication skills, to maintain strong organizational skills, and to have the ability to manage in a dynamic high work volume environment with shifting priorities;
  • Demonstrate a strong focus on safety, an interest in continuous improvement, strong team work skills, with an ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people;
  • Available to participate in rotating oncall shift, requiring urgently reporting to the facility in the event of an unexpected issue while on call;
  • Be willing to travel to other plants to assist as required, including travel by helicopter/plane.

Requirements:

Education_

  • Grade 12 diploma or G.E.D;
  • Trade certificate (millwright, heavy duty mechanic, industrial electrician, power engineer, etc.) Relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience _

  • Valid BC Driver's License;
  • Experience in the operations and maintenance of hydroelectric generating facilities would be considered an asset;
  • Minimum Five (5) years' experience in industrial environment.

Physical Requirements_

  • Ability to perform manual tasks including but not limited to operation of hand and power tools;
  • Ability to lift at least 80 lbs.;
  • Ability to bend and maneuver in tight, cramped quarters;
  • Ability to work in hot, noisy and dark environments;
  • Ability to work at heights;
  • Ability to work with and wear respiratory protection;
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms above shoulder level and at shoulder level;
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time;
  • Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools and machine parts;
