"General Accountability:
- Oversees and supervises the work carried out in the Section (in stations, yards, facilities, repair shops, and throughout TTC properties). This involves the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of various electrical systems and/or equipment. Works with computerized systems, prevention systems (i.e., fire detection), and many other safety systems. The role will also entail administrative and supervisory duties such as training subordinate employees, timekeeping, scheduling, writing reports, budgeting, and liaising with internal and external parties. The role may include work with electronic and electrical equipment, power distribution equipment, and cables that provide traction power for streetcar, subway and RT services.
Key Job Functions:
- Inspect equipment and/or systems (i.e., electrical, technical, structural), test, and repair as necessary.
- Review, modify, and update or upgrade systems and databases on an ongoing basis (both hardware and software) as new information relevant to work is introduced.
- Liaise with other colleagues, support staff, other departments, and potentially external customers or stakeholders concerning routine matters related to the work assigned.
- Develop and organize materials or procedures (i.e., technical manuals, supplier information).
- Provide technical expertise, guidance, assistance and recommendations for the area of responsibility as needed.
- Plan, adjust, and project work, schedules, costs, and systems as needed.
- Address environmental, safety, and other compliance issues related to operations in the Department or Section.
- Record information and communications (e.g., reports, estimates, employeerelated documented, schedules, inventory) and store appropriately for Department use. Distribute to the appropriate parties in accordance with established standards.
- Review, process, and monitor information (data, records, processes and/or equipment inventory), following up, and updating as required.
- Complete tasks in relation to managing people, including administrative duties along with approving/authorizing requests ensuring they are within established standards, related policies and compliance regulations.
- Participate in the TTC's Customer Service Ambassador Program

Education and Experience:
- Completion of a postsecondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent. (Equivalency of a technical school graduation in an electrical/electronic field).
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship in a signal control discipline
- Several years of experience working with sophisticated signal control equipment
Additional Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic, mechanical and computerized signal equipment used to monitor and control rail vehicles
- Ability to direct the work of a unionized group of skilled technical employees
- Ability to quickly acquire Subway/SRT Rule Book certification, and knowledge of relevant collective agreements
- Sound judgement, well developed problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills
