The Garden Centre Sales Associate - Plant Expert - works in a fast-paced environment that involves constant interaction with customers to deliver friendly, knowledge based service.

This role also involves Garden Centre maintenance (watering and caring for annuals, perennials and nursery stock), stock replenishment, merchandising, customer carry outs and general housekeeping.

The Plant Expert will be "passionate" about plants and possess complete and current knowledge of plants, flowers, shrubs and related products.

He/she will act as an expert to answer questions from both staff and customers, achieve and maintain retail standards in the Garden Centre, and deliver superior customer service.

Act as an Expert:

Ensures that the retail basic tasks are executed efficiently (stocking, labels, facings)
Stocks merchandise displays
Maintains inventory accuracy and identifies/report low stock levels
Maintains and rotates annuals, perennials and nursery stock to ensure they are fresh and appealing
Assists in the receipt of garden centre products
Verifies that all UPCs, costs and selling price are accurate
Ensures that all merchandise to be purchased is rung through the cash register. Reconciles all carryout purchases
Operates computer, and RF gun, and enters all relevant coding in Canadian Tire systems.
Plays an active role in the garden centre team by openly sharing opinions and ideas on how to improve department success
Engages in learning activities and listens to feedback to improve their own abilities
Complies with company, store and Garden Centre Policies
Abides by all health and safety programs and regulations. Reports any observed or potential hazards immediately.
Uses professional language and maintains a professional appearance (uniform, hygiene, grooming and name tag)
Maintains positive and ongoing relationships with vendors
Ensure plant shipments are received, unloaded, and meet quality and freshness standards.
Makes ordering recommendations to the garden Centre manager
Competes other tasks as required.

Customer Service:

Highly approachable, customer orientated individual who thrives on offering exceptional service to customers.
Provides excellent customer service to all customers entering the garden centre, by educating them in the care and maintenance of annuals, perennials, nursery stock and related products.
Assesses customer needs and provide expert advice/recommendations regarding available products.
Provide customers with suggestions for complimentary products
Handles multiple customers in an effective and efficient manner
Deals with challenging situations in a professional manner.
Learn about incoming new lawn and garden products.
Keep up to date with in store promotions, in store deals and product locations.

Store Requirements:

Possess complete and current knowledge of plants, flowers and nursery products and well as related products (fertilizers, soils, pesticides etc)
Experienced retail professional in garden centre/floral operations.
Ability to provide specific plant recommendations to customers based on their communicated requirements.
Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment that provides assistance and support to coworkers to achieve common goals.
Ability to multitask, adapt and cope with challenging situations.
Positive attitude, punctuality and a solid work ethic.
Ability to work with mínimal supervision with computerized systems (POS, AS400, RF guns and PC's)
Basic math and typing skills
Effective written and oral communication skills
This position involves some tasks that are physical in nature (including receiving and merchandising live goods and related product) which will require you to lift and or carry items as required, on a regular, frequent and unassisted basis. Merchandise items may vary in weight from "light" to "heavy".
Ability to work in an outdoor environment during the garden centre season, with fluctuating temperatures and working conditions.
