This opportunity

The Transportation Division is responsible for the planning, design, rehabilitation, construction and maintenance of highways, bridges, aerodromes and related transportation infrastructure throughout Yukon.

The Environmental Affairs Unit is responsible for working with Transportation Division staff to identify environmental regulatory requirements for Division activities and projects, obtaining the appropriate assessments and authorizations and ensuring that work is compliant with all permits, authorizations and applicable environmental mitigations.

The work is fast paced, varied and requires the ability to manage and prioritize several projects/tasks on a busy schedule.

The position reports directly to the Manager of Environmental Affairs, and works directly with regulators, First Nations, government agencies and the public to understand potential concerns with proposed works and to identify appropriate mitigations to address these concerns.

Regular site visits to Division projects are required to address potential environmental concerns and to ensure compliance with regulations and mitigation measures.

Essential Qualifications (what we're looking for in your resume):

Diploma or degree in the Environmental field, Resource Management or a related discipline;
Experience working and engaging with First Nations, stakeholders, and the public (preferably involving environmental compliance);
Experience with environmental impact assessment and regulatory permitting;
Experience interpreting and working with environmental legislation, and;
Experience planning, developing, implementing and evaluating projects with respect to environmental considerations and compliance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Strong public relations skills and the ability to work with tact and diplomacy;
Effective workload and time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and all aspects of an assignment;
Knowledge and familiarity with working in the field on environmental considerations/issues/compliance (preferably for transportation related projects or similar types of industrial activities and projects); and
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Conditions of Employment
Must possess and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 driver's licence.

Job Requirements

Travel to project sites and proposed sites is required throughout the year and in all weather conditions; mandatory use of personal protective equipment, and working outside of headquarters area for extended periods of time.
