Program and Position Summary
The Hoarding Assistance Team (HAT) Case Manager reports to the Program


Main Duties

  • Provide intensive case management supports to clients that promote the ability to maintain stable housing and reduce hoarding
  • Implement hoarding reduction strategies using CBT, harm reduction, Trauma
Informed Care, and other therapeutic approaches

  • Use the Clutter Image Rating Scale to monitor progress, track outcomes, and evaluate a reduction in hoarding behaviour/clutter
  • Support clients in the ongoing management of their unit to achieve positive outcomes related to decluttering, garbage removal, preparation for pest treatment, collaboration with landlords, and external contracts for item disposal
  • Conduct post intervention assessments to monitor improvements to mental and/or physical health among clients
  • Work with clients to identify goals and improve safety in housing using existing health, safety, and property standards
  • Support the Program Coordinator with intake assessments
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in tracking data as required
  • Mediate crisis situations using nonviolent crisis intervention techniques
  • Work as an integral part of the team, working collaboratively with the Buried in Treasures Peer Facilitators
  • Other duties as required

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Social Work (BSW): Social Service Work, or related discipline
  • A minimum two years' experience working directly with individuals experiencing housing precarity
  • Experience working directly with individuals living with hoarding behaviours
  • A minimum three years' experience in case management
  • Experience advocating for individuals
  • Experience with direct service delivery
  • Experience in nonviolent crisis intervention and deescalation

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Demonstrable knowledge of hoarding and associated therapeutic techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of Trauma Informed Care
  • Knowledge and experience with service agencies and resources for individuals experiencing hoarding and housing precarity
  • Sensitivity to the needs of individuals who may have mental health and/or substance use
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to stay accountable to the professional standards and expectations of the organization
  • Ability and willingness to provide support to individuals in environments that may contain pests or other adverse conditions
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to work with a culturally diverse population
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written
  • Excellent time management
  • Willingness and comfort with frequent travel through the City of Ottawa
  • Ability to work independently, and in collaboration with others
  • Documented evidence of formal trainings such as NVCIS
Current unrestricted registration with regulatory body if applicable

  • Complimentary training, education, and work experience are considered assets
  • Ability to converse in languages other than English is considered a strong asset

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 13 months


Salary:
$55,241.00-$60,311.00 per year
