$28.32/hour - $32.51/hour

The Opportunity:


The
Volunteer Coordinator will provide Information and Orientation sessions to IRCC eligible clients on volunteerism in Canada including supporting clients through the volunteer intake process through monthly volunteer orientations and volunteer training to prepare them for internal and external volunteer opportunities.

The orientations will include introductions to low barrier opportunities and positions appropriate for youth, women and seniors.

The Volunteer Coordinator will also respond to public offers of support for local community by coordinating offers of donations of goods, volunteering to support local efforts and coordinate volunteers who speak a variety of different languages.


Key Responsibilities

  • Recruits, screens, interviews, selects, and supports volunteers;
  • Assesses volunteers' skills and matches them to appropriate opportunities;
  • Places, supervises, guides and supports volunteers to ensure the realization of a meaningful experience;
  • Coordinates associated program activities and provides support to volunteers;
  • Maintains contact with community groups and volunteer organizations to promote interest, participation in, and support for the program. Develops promotional materials in conjunction with the program coordinator and marketing staff;
  • Develops and maintains program statistics and reports. Maintains records of volunteer placements, hours, requests and concerns;
  • Performs other related duties as required;
  • Develop and conduct orientation sessions for new volunteers;
  • Keeps informed of new developments in the field of volunteer administration.
  • Assist with planning and executing training sessions, focus groups, and other events.
  • Supporting community outreach via social media and internal referral channels, to identify eligible clients and volunteers for project.
  • Certificate or education related to Volunteer Management preferred;
  • Degree in related human/social services field preferred or diploma and experience commensurate to the position;
  • Volunteer coordination experience within the last 3 years;
  • Knowledge of issues and concerns related to volunteers;
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs and material;
  • Ability to create an open and supportive climate for discussion; seek to develop trust by encouraging open, twoway communications; provide constructive feedback and advice; demonstrate good listening/followup skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; a second language is an asset;
  • Able to make public presentations and conduct group facilitation;
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness in working with others;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural team setting;
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and meet deadlines;
  • Strong computer literacy skills (including MS Windows, MS Word, MS Works, MS Excel and the internet);
  • Knowledge of SurveyMonkey and MailChimp is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required. Applicant should be comfortable meeting new people, conducting interviews in person and by phone, and communicating clearly and professionally.
  • Excellent organizational skills, especially with regards to scheduling and database management.
  • Experience working with immigrants, refugees and refugee claimants and knowledge of the settlement sector;
  • Sound knowledge of community resources and ability to network and build partnerships.
