    Opportunity

    MacEwan University Sport and Wellness seeks to fill the Camp Leader role. This is an opportunity for up to 40 hours per week. You will be the on-site leader of camps and will manage registrations, participants' drop off and pick up, camp activities and staff break. The Camp Leader will also assist the Programmer and Supervisors with other camp-related tasks as assigned; they will help evaluate camp coordinators, counsellors, youth leaders, and the program itself, including completing a comprehensive End-of-Summer Report.

    Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist peers in attending to children's needs, protecting children's health and safety, and participating in play.
  • Attend training and lead sessions as scheduled.
  • Assist Programmer and Supervisors with mentorship and competency development of Camp Coordinators and Counselors.
  • Work with Programmer and Supervisors to develop camp schedules, plan daily activities and complete facility usage requests.

  • Qualifications

    Required:

  • 18 years of age or older (will be required to supervise staff under 18)
  • Previous experience working with children and youth and/or experience with camp delivery
  • Experience working with youth and leading others
  • High degree of comfort and confidence in the water
  • Standard First Aid certification (or willing to obtain before staff training)
  • Assets:

  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor or other Aquatics certifications
  • NCCP coaching or other coaching/instructional certification
  • Coaching or instructional experience
  • Familiarity with Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness (as a facility patron, program participant, volunteer, or staff) is considered an asset.
  • Position Requirements

  • Schedule and work hours depend on the total number of registrants in each camp. Expected work hours are 7 to 8 hours daily, scheduled between 8:00 and 5:00 over late June, July and August as needed.
  • May also be required to stay in the water at our swimming facility for extended periods; carry and lift supplies; and remain attentive in noisy, disruptive, hot and cold conditions both indoors and outdoors.
  • The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
