(OWI) is the independent studio behind the successful military first-person shooter game, "Squad." OWI was formed in 2014 by more than 15 developers who had worked together on the well-known Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2.

The founding purpose of the team was to bring a standalone successor of this acclaimed mod to market and build a game development studio and a livelihood from that foundation.

Fast forward to 2023, OWI has nearly 140 employees and is rapidly growing.

We have been expanding the studio into serving as a publisher supporting mods and have just released our new title into early access, "

Starship Troopers:
Extermination", a 16-player PvE first-person shooter based on the 1997 cult-classic film.

We are looking for a talented
Lead Environment Artist to create amazing worlds and levels for

Starship Troopers:
Extermination. If you are passionate about making great games and a team player, we are looking for you


Job Duties:


  • Work with the Art Director, conduct reviews and provide regular feedback in line with the vision set out by art direction, maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Creating highquality benchmark content, from individual assets to entire levels, sets, Prefabs.
  • Set dress locations, utilizing depth in storytelling the way assets are composed going beyond the immediate needs of game design but still staying within the limits set.
  • Ability to quickly understand and turn concept art, reference imagery, and style guides into efficient asset lists, considering opportunities for reuse and modular construction.
  • Explore and implement new techniques, tools, and workflows in art, that will help improve the quality and efficiency of the game.
  • Breakdown tasks, assemble reference material, write briefs, and oversee the work of internal and external artists.
  • Manage/ mentor the environment art team through development of content to final quality.

Requirements:


  • 6 or more years of production experience with asset creation and overseeing entire levels.
  • You have expert knowledge of Maya, Max, or similar 3D modeling software.
  • A strong sense of proportion, scene composition, and lighting.
  • Experienced in managing and directing a small subset of artists in delivering Environments content to final quality.
  • High fidelity modeling skills, along with ability to paint photorealistic surfaces using industrystandard physicallybased 3D paint software (ideally Substance Painter).
  • Well versed in assessing scope, making recommendations, providing solid estimates, and delivering on time and to quality
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in game design or level design
  • Experience creating multiplayer levels in Unreal Engine 4/5 and have worked on game mods, student projects, or professional games.
  • Skills in optimizing games and understanding of instancing, merging, levels of detail, hierarchical instanced static meshes, proxies, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the English language, both verbal and written
  • Ability to anticipate, prioritize, and organize work to meet objectives

Desirable Traits:


  • Interest in shooters.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4/5 computer software or equivalent (Unity, QERadiant, Source Engine)
  • Experience with Art production tools and level editing pipelines
  • Experience with World Machine or similar terrain creation software
  • Experience with visual scripting processes, such as Unreal Blueprints
  • Experience with imaging software, such as Adobe Photoshop
