    Role Responsibilities

    The Corporate and Strategic Services Branch plays a leading role in the development and delivery of community and stakeholder engagement processes to support government decision-making that ensures the sustainable management of Alberta's Forestry and Parks.

    The Branch also plays a leadership role developing and delivering education programs that foster shared public stewardship of the province's natural resources. We are looking for a talented and passionate professional who has a successful track record utilizing public participation and education approaches to facilitate effective decision-making and the adoption of sustainable environmental behaviors by target audiences.

    As an Engagement and Education Specialist you will utilize International Association for Public Participation principles and industry best practices to design and execute public engagement plans that support a wide range of Ministry priorities. You will also facilitate the planning and implementation of proactive education programs that empower Albertans to think, plan and act with the environment in mind.

    The ideal candidate will have experience and proven competencies in the areas listed below:

  • Responsible for planning and preparing business strategies for branch and ministry
  • Translating the work of Forestry and Parks' (FP) strategic operational priorities into a comprehensive and integrated engagement approach that address key departmental and government outcomes.
  • Developing collaborative, positive and productive relationships with key stakeholders within the ministry, and cross-government, including Communications and Public Engagement.
  • Ensuring Forestry and Parks' (FP) public participation engagement plans, programs and initiatives are supportive and aligned with corporate engagement standards.
  • Designing and delivering workshops and learning sessions that raise the capability and competency of Forestry and Parks (FP) staff to deliver public-facing education and engagement activities.
  • Developing and utilizing literacy strategies and education programs as the department's primary non-regulatory tool to support the achievement of the Ministry's forestry, wildfire, parks and public lands related outcomes.
  • Project and issues management are essential components of the role and you should have highly developed strategic thinking and problem solving skills to recognize and articulate the broader implications of current and future initiatives. The preferred candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across all demographics.

    About Your Work Environment
    In this role, you will primarily be working in an office setting. You will have regular, on-going contact with Alberta Forestry and Parks' Program Area staff, other ministries and external stakeholder groups. Intermittent travel is required to various locations in Alberta to facilitate the delivery of engagement and education activities.
