- Manage the quarry in all areas including production, maintenance, and quality control in a cost-effective manner.
- Develop and execute goals and objectives for the quarry.
- Sustain an optimal supply of raw material to the Edmonton cement plant.
- Assess current reserves and develop short- and long-range mining plans.
- Ensure reliability and performance of the mobile equipment.
- Develop and execute capital projects.
- Ensure compliance with environmental standards and government regulations related to permitting and reclamation.
- Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Company policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Company guidelines, performing training, monitoring compliance, etc.
- Proactively manage health & safety of employees to continuously improve the companys health & safety performance.
- Bachelors degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university related to mining or quarrying or related experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience operating a 1 million ton/year quarry or greater with multiple shift crews
- Experience with underground mining is required as this will be required for strategy and development of the mine plan
- Ability to manage a mining operation in challenging geology which requires detailed monitoring and selective mining on a daily basis
- Prior experience managing and supervising staff is required
- Ability to read, to analyze, and to interpret geological maps, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to effectively present information to plant management
- Ability to develop and execute mining plan based on the production forecast
- Ability to complete GPS surveys and analyze data with AutoCAD and mine planning software
