IDEXX is seeking an Instrumentation & Mechanical Design intern to join the TECTA Business Unit in Kingston, Ontario.
A member of the S&P 500, IDEXX is a global leader in pet healthcare innovation and rapid microbiology testing for water.
Through the acquisition of Queen's University start-up company TECTA-PDS in 2022, IDEXX has established the TECTA business unit, a division of IDEXX Water that develops and manufactures automated microbiology testing platforms.
Position Profile:
You will work collaboratively with a team of engineers to design mechanical, optical and electronic components for use in innovative microbiology testing platforms that advance the provision of safe and clean water worldwide.
You will also participate in the assembly of prototype instruments in order to develop assembly diagrams, bill of materials and instructions.
Qualifications:
University level coursework in mechanical design
Proficiency with modelling in SolidWorks CAD software
A basic understanding of manufacturing processes
Proficiency with hand and power tools
Experience building out prototypes
Strong problem-solving skills in a team environment.
Strong written and verbal communications skills
A desire to work in a fast-pace design environment
Ability to work with minimum supervision to meet overall objectives.
Ability to travel locally and internationally.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Engineering or Science
A background and/or interest in the clean-tech and water technology industries
Fluency in English (a second language is an asset)
This is an in-office role and is based in Kingston, Ontario
