Description
The role of the
System Administrator - Linux is to support and administer business-critical Linux servers at West Fraser. Linux servers are the backbone of critical sales, finance, and security infrastructure. This position will report directly to the Infrastructure Software Supervisor.


Responsibilities:


  • Maintaining and implementing Linux systems (primarily Red Hat, Oracle Enterprise Linux), including: patching and routine maintenance of Linux servers
  • Developing Linux server life cycle replacement and upgrade plans
  • Documenting existing and new Linux servers, including 'asbuilt' setup and ensuring configuration changes are continuously documented
  • Monitoring performance and providing recommendations for improvement of Linux systems
  • Ensuring organizational policy compliance, including governance directives and security policies
  • Assessing and reporting on data security and access of data on Linux file systems
  • Collaborating with infrastructure and security teams to develop and deliver solutions involving Linux servers
  • Use IT Service Management, Change Management and other tools to manage issue resolution and changes to user experience
  • Participating in creation of staff training & documentation
  • Learning new technologies and participating in regular training
  • Work with IT vendors on approved activities as required
  • Directing Infrastructure Software Supervisor
  • Expert experience in Linux operating systems, file systems, management tools, performance, and maintenance
  • Experience managing Linux systems in an enterprise environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities
  • Experience working in Service Now or other major ITSM ticketing and change management tools
  • Experience in use of SharePoint, Teams, Jira and related team collaboration tools

Education:


  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Information Technology or MIS from a recognized public or private program and/or 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Related technical certifications

Examples:

  • Oracle Certified Professional Oracle Linux 8 System Administrator,
  • RHCSA and/or RHCE and/or RHCA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator/Engineer/Architect),
  • LFCS and/or LFCE (Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator/Engineer)
This position may require occasional travel within Canada and the United States of America. Work coverage includes West Fraser business operations and participation in on-call rotation schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work to perform scheduled maintenance, respond to service interruptions, and to meet deadlines.
