    The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) is a dynamic Catholic school board committed to the delivery of quality educational programs and services from a Catholic faith perspective.     Courier Driver

    Starting Salary: $53,934

    Full-Time Hours, Contract

    Hours of Work: 6:30am-3:30pm

    (flexibility with hours is needed)

    Qualifications:

    Valid Class "A" driver license

    Driving record acceptable to board standards

    Two years shipping and/or receiving experience or related background

    Must have knowledge of provincial vehicle (traffic and safety) regulations and general geographic knowledge of the city and areas served by the board

    Ability to do simple mathematical computations.

    Working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Office programs)

    Perform Custodial duties, within the schools, as required

    Applicants will be required to pass a physical test, in order to assess applicant's ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Department-Plant Operations

    Title of Immediate Supervisor-Custodial Supervisor

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor this position is responsible for the safe operation of an assigned motor vehicle and for ensuring that deliveries are completed. Duties will also include cutting of grass and delivery of salt and ice melting products for all Board Facilities.

    Performs additional duties when courier service is not in operation. These duties may include performing custodial services as required.

    Major Functions and Responsibilities

    Operates an assigned motor vehicle and is responsible for the maintenance of vehicle. Maintains a log for tracking mileage and preventative maintenance purposes.

    Operates an assigned motor vehicle from 255kg to 2545kg ensuring the safe operation

    of the assigned vehicle

    Ascertaining basic vehicle defects and safety related problems, ensuring regular safety checks of the vehicle, keeping the truck clean, and ensuring proper preventative maintenance and lubrication is conducted

    Identifies mechanical deficiencies of the assigned vehicle and arranges for repairs

    Tracks mileage by maintaining a mileage log and submitting to Custodial Supervisor for review

    Plans the most efficient routes to take for the pickup and delivery of supplies

    Delivers office supplies, mail and Board equipment by ensuring deliveries are made on schedule and Board procedures are followed

    Delivers office supplies, mail and Board equipment ensuring efficient handling and storage of same

    Loads and unloads the truck ensuring proper weight distribution and that proper loading, securing and unloading techniques are followed

    Ensures that all deliveries are made on schedule and that all associated documentation is completed accurately and returned to the Board

    Maintains an awareness of steps and procedures required in case of accidents involving hazardous products, and follows detailed procedures as stipulated

    Moves furniture and equipment, operates equipment, and loads and unloads equipment

    Relocates office furniture which may include dismantling and assembling as required and moving to perspective locations

    Operates equipment seasonally such as snowplows, lawnmowers, lawn tractors, floor scrubbers, auto scrubbers, and steam cleaners as required and directed by the Custodial Supervisor

    Loads and unload furniture, equipment and office supplies on a daily basis

    Works in an environment which may be characterized by excessive heat during summer, changes in temperature during the winter, and may encounter occasional hazardous driving conditions

    Works with Principals and other C.E.C. and Keaton Centre staff to determine the most effective method of accomplishing the assigned task

    Recommends changes in operational procedures to the Custodial Supervisor

    Carries out additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications, Education, Experience and Knowledge

    Possession of a valid Class "A" driver license Driving record acceptable to board standards

    Must have knowledge of provincial vehicle (traffic and safety) regulations and general geographic knowledge of the city and areas served by the board

    Two years shipping and/or receiving experience or related background

    Good communication skills both verbal and written to effectively deal with Board personnel and the general public in English

    Must have planning and organization skills

    Must be capable of dealing with the general public in a positive manner Record of satisfactory on-the-job performance and attendance record Ability to do simple mathematical computations

    Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of computers

    Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Explorer

    Impact of Errors

    Errors in delivery could cause delays in meeting deadlines such as payroll deadlines, Trustee deliveries, etc.

    Time could be wasted and deliveries delayed if proper routes are not taken.

    Safety

    Precautions must be taken especially when driving in and out of school grounds to avoid injury to students and staff, and while operating tractors and other Board equipment inside and outside of our Facilities.

    Caution must be taken on public roads to avoid injury to students and staff.
