NOTE:
This position is limited to NAIT internal staff only.


We are looking for a self-motivated and science-minded individual to join our research team within the Forest Reclamation and Reforestation Team at the Centre for Boreal Research (CBR).

This position will execute applied research projects supporting the forest reclamation research team (led by Dr. Amanda Schoonmaker) at the Centre for Boreal Research.

This position will be a mix of field work, lab/greenhouse and desk-based work, requiring a variety of skills, independent thinking and strong organizational and interpersonal skills to work in a fast-paced and busy team setting.

Field experience, particularly in a scientific setting, is a necessary pre-requisite for this role.

This position will also support routine lab and greenhouse activities as well as desk-based work including data entry and organization, imagery compilation and assist with technical reporting to industry clients.

This position will require relocation to Peace River, Alberta.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Field execution of research projects: tree planting, plot layout and the collection of annual tree and vegetation survey data
  • Routine lab work
  • Plant propagation in greenhouse
  • Data entry
  • Research extension deliverables including capturing imagery and 360 videos
  • Technical reporting

Skills & Abilities:


  • Experience driving 4WD trucks on gravel roads.
  • Experience operating trailers and allterrain vehicles.
  • Vegetation identification training (and experience).
  • Experience utilizing 360 cameras and postimage processing is an asset.
  • Be physically fit as this position requires extensive outdoor work on uneven terrain.
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft office and Arcgis software.
  • Demonstrated technical writing competence.
  • Experience propagating plants and processing plant/soil samples
  • Ability to work independently and lead junior team members.

Qualifications:


  • Diploma in related biology or forestry discipline
  • Class 5 license with clean drivers abstract preferred
  • Minimum 12 months of related experience
  • Equivalencies may be considered

Remuneration:
$2, $2,773.79 bi-weekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Research Assistant II).

  • This position is covered by the AUPE (Alberta Union of Provincial Employees) Collective Agreement._
