    Description

    The NL Smokers' Helpline provides a variety of programs to support individuals in quitting smoking or quitting vaping. Tobacco cessation information and coaching is provided through over-the-phone and online programs.

    This position will have a key role in coordinating and facilitating a variety of promotional initiatives to increase awareness and utilization of the Helpline, along with providing tobacco cessation services to clients.

    The Outreach Facilitator will promote tobacco cessation and the Helpline services through:

    • connecting with community partners (for ex., via email, phone calls, online or face-to-face meetings);
    • developing content to promote the Helpline services such as articles, reports, social media posts;
    • delivering information sessions and presentations; and
    • distributing resources to health professionals and community partners.

    As part of the Helpline team, this role also assists with the delivery of the Helpline's programs, and will respond to incoming requests through phone, email, online and social media.

    The Smokers' Helpline hours of operation are: 9am-9pm Monday to Thursday, 9-5pm on Fridays.

    This position is 35 hours per week with 1 evening shift (until 9pm) per week.

    Qualifications

    • This position requires a university degree in a health-related field / social sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience in health promotion would be an asset.
    • Training in the area of tobacco cessation counseling will be provided.

    In this position, valued skills include: communication (oral, written and interpersonal skills), empathy and understanding, teamwork/collaboration, research/report-writing, along with the ability to work independently.
